The Ion Age Year One And Beyond!

The Ion Age just finished up it's first year in it's big new/re-release push. I do not know where the time went but it has brought us some absolutely outstanding models in the category of Space Opera. From space knights, to battlesuits and all the way through to villainous denizens, this range has grown into something of a signature line of miniatures. All along there have been special offers and free miniatures giveaways which have only spiced up the already flavorful mix of figures, vehicles and terrain. July and August carry on this trend.

IMP12 is technically the August free miniature offer ,but is being released early because somebody had to go travelling (safe journey Gavin). This miniatures is called a Starvaulter Advisor which sounds cool in itself but has me wondering if we will see more of them. According to the flavor text, Starvaulters are an elite group of warriors which is saying something in a universe full of tough as nails combatants.

As usual this miniature will come free with any order and may be purchased on its own for those who want just this fig or multiples. The fig goes away after August, though, so move quick.

A bit of a late news item but no less cool. There is the Year One Collection which is comprised of all of Ion Age's special free monthly minis (including the sniper/scout I worked on) in one go. You will notice that August 2014's monthly mini is in there, but that is just icing on this cake. This set alone grants you an entire host of fun characters from the Ion Age universe.

ArmiesArmy is very pleased to announce a 10% savings for pre-orders of its new Penal Force

By Harold

ArmiesArmy is very pleased to announce a 10% savings for pre-orders of its new Penal Force

Penal battalion service in infantry roles was the most common use of Prisoners whether they were political prisoners, convicts, P.O.W’s or troops who had failed in previous duties and were viewed by many prisoners as tantamount to a death sentence.

Prisoners sentenced to infantry units were eligible for commutation of sentence and assignment to an Army line unit if they survived their sentence or had accomplished extremely heroic deeds in combat. They could also theoretically receive military decorations for outstanding service and if released were considered fully rehabilitated, though those suspected of political disloyalties remained marked men.

In reality, the promise of rehabilitation was (in most cases) pure propaganda; penal battalions were administered and commanded by the field unit HQ’s, who treated Penal Troops as a worthless subspecies of soldier, useful only for absorbing heavy casualties that would otherwise be inflicted on a more worthy unit.
The penal troopers thus faced little prospect of escape, ensured by the use of explosive neck devices, activated with zero hesitation if so much as the slightest hesitation was shown!

The R.U.S.K and PLA forces both regularly use Penal Forces. With limited firepower and no body armour these troops are also nice for converting to several other troop types.

To launch the new troops, I’ll be offering a preorder special of 10% off all Penal Troopers.  The offer will close in 2 weeks’ time and Items posted within the month.

Ill also be offering new Army pack special of 6 packs of Penal troops and one pack of either Rusk HQ troops or Sino/PLA  HQ.

Codes are
AA401 pack – 5 unique Penal troops
AA420 pack – 6 packs of Penal troops and 1 Rusk HQ troop
AA421 pack – 6 packs of Penal troops and 1 Sino/PLA HQ troop

We have plans to extend the range as well, and are always happy to hear your suggestions!

All packs can be found on ArmiesArmy Shop

Something Big Landing

15mm.co.uk has brought the last of its vintage Laserburn vehicles back from the past with a resin update. The original Scorpion Air Lander model was a monster in metal that  drooled over in black and white advertisements in Dragon Magazine adverts and on the pegs at the old shops in the area. I never owned one but all of us have a chance to add this impressive Space Opera rig to our collections.

Brigade Models June+ Round Up

Brigade Models has really been pushing out some good stuff for their 15mm science fiction miniatures range. So much so that we have been having a hard time keeping up. So, to rectify that situation here is a gain post about what Brigade has been up to through June and into July (and maybe a few others we forgot). I think you will see why we have a hard time keeping up.

Germans
For big heavy vehicles, look for the Germans. The Woden and its associated vehicles all use the same chassis adding a heavy tank, tank destroyer and twin-turret vehicle. Size skirts have been designed to fit this chassis as well.

SF15-302b SF15-302s-1

Crew Figures
Three sets of half figures, each in a different style that should fit just about any vehicle crew needs. Sculpted by the very talented Martin Baker, all three sets have identical torsos with different headgear. This not only allows you to use them for different factions, but you can also mix and match in a single faction for that battle worn look.

Accessory Packs
All vehicle modelers want this stuff and Brigade has done a great job of answering this call and not just with the usual bags, stowage and camo netting. They have also released various turret top systems - sensors, aerials, etc. These are great for adding detail to your rigs or for those cool scratch builds and kit bashes. Brigade has even gone as far as making hatches (where was this in my last round of scratch builds).

More EuroFed Vehicles
The Juin AA and Tassigany (AA and Command) were released in May but somehow escaped our radar (must be stealth). These lighter vehicles will add some useful firepower and variety to your vehicle forces. They also look like the sorts of rigs that might show up in smaller national armies, client states or mercenary forces.

Neo-Soviets
Everyone loves future Russians. Almost every line of near future has them. It makes sense. Brigades offerings in this category are very nice and represent a look that while still saying "Hey I'm Russian" are not simply future T-X tanks. Combined with some smaller vehicles these all share a certain utilitarian simplicity we expect in Soviet vehicles, neo or otherwise. They even released a bunker option. The smaller turrets and sensor pods on these vehicles are also available separately for your converting pleasure.

PacFed Raesides
The PacFed vehicles from Brigade are a very distinct grav design and these latest utility vehicles keep that flow going. While intended as utility vehicles, there is an MG and missile turret design in the mix. With the inclusion of the pintle mounted weapons I can see a combat car coming out of these. I have included one of the earlier PacFed tanks for reference.
