FIREFIGHT FRIDAY No1: A WORLD OF HURT

.
Friday night is now Firefight Friday in the Dropship Horizon rec.room. What better way to kick offthan a homage to one of my favourite Sci Fi films - PREDATOR.

Billy: "There's something out there waiting for us,
and it ain't no man. We're all gonna die...."

Blain: "You lose it here, you're in a world of hurt. ..."

Heavily converted 15mm Peter Pig AK47 and Nam Aussie SAS troopers play 'Belgie' and the boys in a Mutants And Death Ray Guns firefight to the death!

A fun, satisfying but not too serious game, with bags of laughs and lot's of quoting from the movie - "BILLY!", "DUG IN DEEPER THAN AN ALABAMA TICK", "GET TO DA CHOPPA", "HAWA HA HA HAA!"

Cracked the Special Assault Brigade

.
Managed to crack my painting stalemate with Jon's Special Assault Brigade! I settled for Vallejo Orange Ochre, with the help of a Mohican separate head from GZG's SG15-XH1 Heads pack.

15mm Sci Fi: Harkonnen Drop Trooper WIP

The headswop above took me 20 minutes plus a large glass of Crows Fountain whilst I carefully pared away the helmet. Made harder by the fact that I'd already assembled and undercoated the figure. Still have fine detailing and some tidying up to go but I think he's turned into a damn fine 15mm Sci Fi masterpeice - screaming dynamic character.

Why the headswop? Look at the pic! The result is so frakkin cool! Straight off the cover of a Dan Abnett novel. 28mm comes to 15'. What other reason do I need!

Rest of the squad in Mohicans like this - 15 man platoon and then maybe a squad or more in Space Marine blue for the hell of it! Hoo-Ahh!

IN THE PIPE... Pole Bitwy 15mm Desert Dwellings

.
Piotr of Pole Bitwy has sent me photos of his soon to be released Desert Dwellings. Breaking away from the traditional square or oblong shaped desert buildings Dan (aka Cacique Caribe) are great for deserts on far off worlds.

As you can see in this photo below, just three models make for a very interesting little settlement on Arakis, Tatooine or similar.

The Desert Dwellings will be available shortly and I will keep you updated on release date and costs.

In the Pipe......Critical Mass Games Tamaska/Fenrir Carrier

.
Meanwhile, Critical Mass Games continue to pile on the 15mm goodies! The Tamaska/Fenrir Heavy Walker will be released at Salute on 24th April. The kit allows you to build either variant.

Critical Mass Games 15mm Sci Fi
Protolene "Tamaska/Fenrir" Heavy Carrier
- 1 Variant (PRVH7a - £20.00)

Inspired! That camo scheme reminds me of an ME262 and shows off the models to their best. I'd beeen looking at a similar camo scheme for some Grav Tanks only this week - but Craig has really captured it well. Make sure you check the Critical Mass forum for more closeup pics.

Dilemmas, Dilemmas...painting Khurasan's 15mm Special Assault Brigade

.
I have one of Jon's new Special Assault Brigade troopers on my workbench and have been agonising for days over how to paint him. I want a scheme that reflects his Power Marine status yet clearly shows him to be Hi Sci Fi.

This guy and his compadres is going to create havoc on a dozen starships, fight on asteroids and generally fight man's battles 1-2-1 on the Higher Ground of space. I think they would look fantastic black, perhaps with white accents - but a Mass Effect white armour with a red helmet, red shoulder joints and shin protectors also appeals.

On the train this morning I thought about Space Marine blue - but next month I have just shy of 200 15mm 'Space Marines ' to paint and they are mostly if not wholly destined to be painted this scheme.

In the end I might just plump safe with Vallejo German Orange Ochre. There are hard battles to be fought with Tom.War on terra firma in the coming months as the houses struggle for Mudd Eisley and the spice trade.

ps Jon's updated his website with his latest releases.

Reign of Steel: 15mm Combat Droids from The Scene

.
Picked up a copy of GURPS: Reign of Steel yesterday for a few pounds in PLAN 9 Aberdeen's original comic and game store.

It proved to be a great read on the train home. Whilst there was a nod to a certain Terminator and Skynet the background was interesting and plausible enough not to simply be a hackneyed copy of the Terminator movies and seemed to be easily transportable to a hundred other worlds.

So, just as I'm thinking about robo armies to populate my post apocalypse wasteland, inspired by Reign of Steel - Mike at The Scene sends me a flurry of emails showing his latest WIP Skeletal Droids:

15mm human sized

Around 20mm tall

There will be 5 poses with three weapons options for each type of Droid (gatling guns,
laser guns and flame throwers).

The first packs should be available in 4 weeks.
