Rebel Transport and Steampunk Infantry, More Laserburn Vehicles, and Micropanzer Building Bits

Rebel Minis has unveiled a new conversion kit for the Earthforce Dropship.

Sculpted by Chris at Ravenstar Studios (who also made the Warthog conversion for the Titan Dropship), this brilliant bit of work add a dorsal intake hood and an open passenger bay to the original JBR-designed dropship. The result is quite impressive - it has a place in everything from near-future to space opera settings. I expect Lightning Division players in Hammer's Slammers: The Crucible will get some mileage out of these!

On the other side of the sci-fi spectrum, Rebel has also released a pack of Steampunk British Infantry.

These gasmasked soldiers are perfect for those late-19th century expeditions to Mars, Venus, or those undiscovered creature-infested islands. Rebel's own Chupacabras might be a good opponent for this infantry pack.

15mm.Co.Uk has released two more vehicles in the remastered Laserburn range.

The Support Wagon (pictured left) is a nice military-grade speeder. The sleek shape and open top imply speed and utility rather than a front-line combat role. That makes it ideal for occupation and police patrols (especially since there's a seated Law Officer figure available) or general counter-insurgent operations. Very useful in small skirmish games.

The Partizan Scout Car (pictured right) is a fully-enclosed vehicle with lots of potential. The sculpted details give you lots of room for judgment - it could be a thin-skinned cargo van, a slab-sided armored courier car, or a small, fast military vehicle. The raised section on top offers conversion potential - it would be easy to add a small sensor, radar, communication array, or remote-operated weapon. I've always thought it was a nice looking vehicle, but the old pewter casting in my collection just isn't clean enough to use. It definitely looks like the new resin castings will bring the Laserburn range up to today's standards.

A couple weeks ago, Jason at Micropanzer Studios posted about a restock of his resin terrain items. But somehow I completely missed all the new bits he added to the range (sorry, Jason!). 

The range offers a ton of parts to convert your own buildings - Jason has been using them very successfully with plastic electrical boxes. It's a great mix of items - some are hand sculpted, and others are cleverly cast from obsolete toys and models. 

What really caught my eye is bit #28. I've been looking for something to use as futuristic street lamps with my Mad Mecha Guy, Proxie Models, and GameCraft cityscapes. This part might just do the trick - effectively and inexpensively. And it's a great excuse to get some of his Crate Sets, and some of his Mass Extractors to pull fossil fuels from the depths of my snow-world table.

Micropanzer Greeblies

Jason at Micropanzer is offering a 20% plus discount off his current stocks whilst he reorganises his production moulds.

Alien no. 2, the four armed, polearm and sword wielding greeblie is particularly good value. He and his mukka Alien No.1 not only make futuristic 'restless natives' but can be rolled out for "John Carter of Mars" or PIMMS (Patrols in the Martian Sands) style VSF. I can only reiterate my post back in March, "the Krystrial are the just the sort of pulp Sci Fi novel/console game aliens that should be the staple of every 15mm Sci Fi, gamer's collection".

April's Aliens

A platoon's worth of Critical Mass Games' Kamaados Naga to bolster my alien Covenant have arrived and you know, I'm now kicking myself that I didn't also order some of the Kamaados Battlesuits during their recent sale.

A couple of Kaamados Dragamaa Heavy Tanks were included in the order. Somehow I thought these would physically dominate my table, but no...... and they are crackingly good models, so there's plenty of room for another platoon.
 
Anyway, pay day is fast approaching and it's time to think ahead to April. GZG should be refreshed, restored and up for business again. I know there are 15mm goodies waiting in the wings, so some cash will be put aside for Jon. Khurasan? Always plenty on my wishlist, such as more  TTC104 Special Assault Brigade in Power Armour. I'm taken by MicroPanzer Wargame Studio's alien swarm. Meant to buy them last September but health issues mitigated against this.

Krystrial Empire Riavaui Swarm Alien Squad -- 11 figures

The Krystrial are the just the sort of pulp Sci Fi novel/console game aliens that should be the staple of every 15mm Sci Fi, gamer's collection.  If you are looking for one pack of multi-purpose aliens with guns then the 'swarm' pack pictured above is it.

The range of figures in the swarm is broad enough to be anything from low VSF Green Martians to high tech sentient alien greeblies with pulse rifles overrunning human settlements.

One of these 'Swarm' packs alone (pictured above) would be perfect on it's own for 15mm skirmish and RPG games, offering a decent sprectrum of troops and weapons in one pack. It also becaones a good core force on which to build an alien raiding party or even whole army (thinking ASQL v0.2) from the other packs in the range.

REVIEW: Micropanzer 15mm Sci Fi British SAS

Jason at Micropanzer.com has unleashed an ambitious assault on the burgeoning 15mm Sci Fi market.  Project-Slipstream is an idea for a tabletop game with distinct RPG elements. Basically, aliens invade Earth sometime in the 1970's. Now, 30 years post alien apocalypse, the remaining Earth nations are fighting each other to recover alien tech.

The first 15mm release from Micropanzer are futuristic British SAS. There are 4 packs available. Command Squad (3 figs), Infantry Squad (10 figs), Heavy Squad (5 figs) and Veterans (8 figs) . No Tango baiting 'black kit' here. These are armoured and heavily armed troopers. Laser & Pulse Rifles plus Tesla man portable Cannons - yes, in other words B.F.G.s for those who like to go hunting alien flora and fauna with more than a pop gun.

The figures are definitely on a par with Laserburn, ex-MJ Space Troopers and classic GZG Stargrunt 15's and as you can see in the top photo, match Khurasan's new Federal Infantry and Critical Mass Games Arc Fleet Light Recon on the tabletop.

September Marches On........

This week I picked up a flight deal of GZG's AV-7 'FanVans', giving me four in total now. I like these stylishly boxy fellas which can double as 'dropships' as and when required on my tabletop.

In Tom.War they are more than just a flying truck and have real character 'on', or should that be 'over' the tabletop.

To support Jon's new Federal Infantry and as I have a little more security in my job for the next few months or so, next purchase on the cards will be two of Micropanzer's 15mm Warbots. They just look so cool! Plus I want to take advantage of Jason's pre-release offer price of $10 each if purchased before end of September.

I might just add  the Alien Special Promo deal at the same time. The deal includes 1x Overlord, 4x attack hounds and 36 swam aliens (12x of each pose) for a total of 41 figures. Perfect force in a bag for Tom.War or Alien Squad Leader V0.2! They'll also double up as VSF Martains, Post Apoc mutant nasties and as allies for Khurasan's Lhurggs.

Critical Mass Games are releasing Kamaados APC and Scout car variants on the 20th September. I like the look of the Scout Cars and think they will compliment Rebel Minis new Infiltrator Bike, another JBR masterpiece, but I'm holding back for the main purchase in October - a platoon of Dragamaa Heavy Tanks.

I've been following Jason's work over at Micropanzer.com for some months now and have to say that I love his concept work for Project Slipstream.
