Rebel Minis: Earth Force Hover Tank up on the site.

By Harold

Hi everyone,  Rebel Mike posted up on TMP that he now has his Earth Force Hover Tanks up on his site for sale:

Rebel Mike says:

You can see it here: Rebelminis.com

This awesome paint job is from John Treadaway. Many of you know John from the miniature forums and as one of creators of the Hammer's Slammers game. We decided to do some hover craft after Mark Ryan (Yes, I blame you Mark :) ) suggested we look into playing the game. We have the book and we are in the process of putting together a game. Stay tuned and we'll get some pics.
If you want to read more about the game, check out : link

As Always, Thanks!

Really great vehicle, and I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the range as it comes out too (along with that awesome modular range!)

INCOMING....... Rebel Minis 15mm Earth Force Armoured Troops

.
Rebel Minis have just released their much awaited Earth Force Armoured Troops (AT) and in time to be added to the Xmas Wishlist!

The Earth Force Armoured Troops are based on the cover art for Mighty Armour (left). Very much classic Traveller/Striker in style but also suitable as near future, bleeding edge soldiery for Tomorrow's War, FAD etc. These are also troops I'd expect to see in Ghost Recon Future Soldier.

Rebel Minis 15mm Sci Fi
21 minis for $10.95

Whilst the number of poses is limited, there's enough to get started on a small platoon with a couple of headswops. In the meantime, support and heavy weapons can come from any number of options these days - including GZG's Gunbots, UAVs, robotic soldiery or Rebel Minis' own HAMR Suits. There will be dedicated support and heavy weapons in due course.

Rebel have also released a pack of Earth Force Home Guard Heavy Weapons comprising of 2 Snipers (walking), 2 Flamers and 2 medium Missle launchers for $3.47.

I've placed an order for the Earth Force Armoured Troops and looking forward to what may well be the best 15mm Sci Fi figures Rebel Minis have produced to date.

Cheers

It's HAMMER Time!

.
Rebel Minis HAMMER SUIT!
Barking MAD..... but rather tasty with it!

See more WIP details over at John Bear Ross's blog here (Click me!) and (Part 2 here!). I wonder if mecha sized combat knives will be the weapon of choice in the future?

If you don't like the idea of a plexi-glass/plas-steel cockpit then paint it as a metal/camo shell - the operator is working from virtual screens in front of him or fed to his helmet visor.

Available from Rebel Minis soon:

Earth Force Marines - Class!

.
My mantra for 2009 was "You can never have enough Earth Force Marines". I probably have sufficient to keep me busy for another 6 months, especially as I don't have none of that there fancy 'dip' and have to paint them the old fashioned way..... with a lick of spit and a Sable Premier P33 size '0'.

My favourite brush is, well, was.... an Airfix No. '6'. No, don't laugh! It may have had the Tommy Cooper of pedigrees as far as brushes go, but it had a fine tip was a sterling perfomer for over a decade. I reasoned that if the job needed a smaller brush in 15mm, I wasn't going to notice the detail anyway.

The brush took a pounding with all these new figures over the past year, and to be honest, I became careless and didn't look after it. Nevertheless it is still playing a useful role as drybrush No.2.

Back to chummy here in the photo. To me, these Earth Force Marines are classic Sci Fi soldiery - and can't get more classic than the 4518th Lift Infantry Regiment, the Duke of Regina's Own Huscarles. I have squads of these Marines basecoated GW Adeptus Battlegrey, mounted on old CDs and perched on any convenient flat space in the study just waiting to be finished.

Little and often.... 6-7 minis an evening, don't push it and enjoy the experience. That's the advice I gave myself and despite the extra effort - really enjoyed painting these minis. More likely to get a platoon finished by the weekend like this than forcing myself to sit in front of 30 miniatures and push my enthusiasm to get them done in 48 hours.

Earth Force Marines - Painted HOTT Army

.
I'm currently prepping a couple of platoons of Rebel Minis Earth Force Marines in anticipation of painting them in the evenings this week, ready for an asteroid assault game next weekend.

Mike at Rebel Minis must be reading my mind, as he coincidentally sent me photos of a painted and based Earth Force Marine force, created to meet customer requests for an army that's suitable for Hordes of the Things.

I'm sure you'll agree with me that both the individual miniatures and the army as a whole looks superb! I believe they are "dipped" with minwax polyshades and I for one like the finished effect.

That camo scheme is very tempting. Something very Traveller about it. In fact, even unpainted, these minis just say Traveller to me. Now the pressure is on to ensure mine look this good! Thanks Mike! LOL!

15mm GARN: Close Up and Personal

One of the most anticipated releases of the year, Khurasan Miniatures 15mm Sci Fi Garn Warriors will not fail to disappoint. I suspect these new miniatures will become THE alien scumbags of choice amongst the 15mm Sci Fi gaming community.

15mm Khurasan Miniatures
Garn Warriors

Front and rear views of the Garn. Note that these miniatures do not have their weapons attached yet. All figures are sculpted as firing from the hip. The weapons come on a separate sprue and have a small spigot which fits into the hole you can see on the central figure. Take notice that the magazine is already moulded grasped in the right claw.

15mm Garn: L-R: Heavy Weapons trooper and 2 Warriors

The Heavy Weapons trooper comes with a sprue of different weapon 'inserts' which fit beneath the bar you see on the left-hand Garn in the photo above. You can cut off this spigot and paint it as a sword or similar close combat weapon.

Comparisons with other manufacturer's human miniatures

This photo illustrates how solid and powerfully built Garn warriors are compared to humans, yet they do not look 'oversized' , or out of scale in any way. Playing around with the unpainted miniatures, I placed two on a base with the Rebel Earth Force Marine and they looked like a cool mixed species 'mercenary' unit.

The detail on the figures speaks for itself. I particularly like the prominent 'brow' feature above the eyes as it adds both 'menace' and character to the individual Garn models. These are minis you can easily develop empathy for and will want to command on the tabletop as your primary 15mm Sci Fi force - perfect for the upcoming AMBUSH ALLEY Sci Fi variant.

Rebel Minis - 15mm Marine Support Weapons

Following my preview of Rebel Minis new Earth Force Marines, Mike has sent along photos of the infantry support weapons that will give his 'grunts' additional firepower. They will be available in a separate 'support' pack containing two of each miniature.

15mm Earth Force Marine
Support Team

15mm Earth Force Marine
Support Team Detail

The Rebel Minis Earth Force Marine snipers (below) were compleley unexpected. I currently use the WW2 British Snipers from Peter Pig (pack 413) which I've 'Ghillied up' using dried herbs. They are not so useful on Mars or similar planets though, which makes these new miniatures doubly welcome!

15mm Earth Force Marine
Sniper Team

I like the look of that sniper rifle as an anti-tank rifle and am even wondering about converting them into a guided anti-tank rocket launcher team along the lines of MILAN or SPIGOT/KORNET. Should be fairly straight forward with miliput and a piece of plastic rod/sprue.

15mm Earth Force Marine
Sniper Team Top View

I think the detail in the pictures speaks for itself. Like the 'Grunts', these are photos sent by Mike, so I have no actual figures to review and provide comparison with other ranges just now.

Keeping this short as I've broken a tooth down to the gum and the pain is distracting.

Rebel Minis - 15mm Earth Force Marines PREVIEW

Dropship Horizon
is delighed to share with you a preview of Rebel Minis forthcoming range of 15mm Earth Force Marines.

Rebel Minis 15mm
Earth Force Marines

These space grunts are the first of a complete range of Marines in vacc / environmental combat suits which will include NCOs/platoon leaders, support weapons and snipers (pictures will follow soon).

15mm Earth Force Marine 'Grunts'
from Rebel Minis

What can I say? A squad of troops that tell a coherent story in complimentary and natural advancing poses, wins me over every single time. Bloody Marvellous!

There's something really down to earth about these figures. The mini's in the photos exude the gritty feel of the universal grunt of the future. I don't think they would look out of place as C21st futuristic troopers on Earth, tumbling out of a hover APC on Mars or moving forward in Mudd Eisley under the protection of plasma cannons on their Untra-tech Grav MICV.

To this 70's teenager, they are very reminiscent of classic Traveller Sci Fi, and that appeals to me at a deep level. I must admit that I'm really tempted to purchase hordes of Rebel's new Earth Force Marines when they are available, give them GZG's new Ultra-tech GRAV armour and warm up STRIKER the Traveller based futuristic mass combat rules for a complete nostalgia-fest.

Nevertheless, these minis will be perfect for FWC, Ambush Alley and the obligatory space corridor guncrawl. Did someone say "Bughunt?"

Mike also plans a complimentary range of Sci Fi AFV's and a corresponding gunship. An opposition force is already in the works, I've seen the greens and you will be pleased!

Keep an eye on DROPSHIP HORIZON for information on further figures in the range and forthcoming release dates.

Cheers
