New blog with Ion Age campaign

With the festive season upon us and the snow falling it gives me great pleasure to present this short article on a brand new blog which is all about a new campaign set in the universe of The Ion Age. Rhys contacted me a couple of weeks ago and told me of his new campaign which is being played out on his The Great Space Opera Blog part by part. It has not taken long for Rhys to become fascinated with the Prydian Precinct and the civil war which has torn it apart and I have greatly enjoyed reading his plans and his reviews too. Go HERE for the blog or read on for more about what has occurred thus far.
Beginning with an outline of the characteristics of his planned campaign Rhys lays out where he will go and what will happen. See that HERE.
From there he looks at the contents of the excellent value Patrol Angis game pack which gives you all you need to begin playing in one box. This article is HERE and he talks about the contents of the game pack and then shows off his own painted set of Prydian Army and Yordists. Infantry, Portable Weapon with Gunners, Personalities and Battlesuits as well as the unique Knight Errant which you get only in the game pack. I give one picture here but there are many more in the blog post.
Prydian Intelligence Services Despatch (P.I.S.D.). Outpost Ajax has recently received re-enforcements to its expeditionary force pool. The re-enforcements consist of a detached unit of female retained knights with Angis rifles as well as heavy weapons support. In addition to this, an Espaten weapons platform has also been in-loaded with its specially trained Retained Knight crew of 2. These re-enforcements are a welcome addition to the Prydian force pool. This blog post speaks of the battle on Hertford Prime starting to heat up as reinforcements arrive from off world to join the campaign. Go HERE. An Espaten Portable Weapon Platform and a pack of Female Retained Knights. Have a gander and read on.
The most recent Ion Age posting on the Great Space Opera Blog is about one of our most favoured codes in the 15mm range; the Duxis Battlesuit. Deciding that the Prydian Army on Hertford Prime needed more muscle to take on the Marcher Baron threat three of the machines are now in the red and white. Go HERE. The campaign is starting to take off now and I am sure in 2018 there will be the rattle of Angis fire as the Throne attempts to take the world back for the forces of good
Keep an eye on The Great Space Opera Blog. I am enjoying the build up to the campaign taking place. If I were to guess on where Rhys will go next in terms of expanding his forces it would be in the area of bikes. The Burgeon Grav Bike gives Retained Knights a lot of mobility and fits right in with the open world and skirmish level of play which is going on.
Where ever you are in the world..or indeed in the universe a happy holiday season to you from all of us here!
 Thanks for Reading,
GBS

Patrol Angis AAR

Gavin at the Ion Age tuned me into a battle report for his Ion Age rules "Patrol Angis". By now most of you in 15mm scifi are familiar with the Ion Age and the universe that has been unfolding in the various releases, but the rules are new enough that there haven't been a lot of battle reports coming out. This one, from The Conflict Cornucopia blog paints a good picture of the system and the character of the rules.

To read the battle report, follow this link - HERE

It is worth mentioning that so far I am very much liking what I. have read about the system and this AAR only reinforces those opinions. The universe and rules have some nice innovations and interesting twists while still managing to be a spiritual successor to the older school Space Opera scifi game I grew up on. In a universe that uses such terms as Chameleon Circuits, knights, and weapons with heroic names like Anvil there is little not to love in "Patrol Angis" and the whole of the Ion Age

Give it a read!

Alien Trees - Tutorial

By: Umpapa
From: http://umpapas.blogspot.com/

Many people have asked how I made the tree visible in the pictures.

1. chose the colors : purple (instead of brown) and orange (instead of green) with blue detailing. It goes well with my beloved fur of Kilrathi / Kzin /Felids .
2. Find (preferably in late summer) tiny cones.
3. You may try to put the additional steel nail to the bottom of  bottom of bigger of cones.
4. Push gently 2 cm steel nails into spraying board.
5. Hot glue nails and cones.
6 Spray the cheapest strong color, may be automotive, in my case - orange, only the side and top, not too much - make sure the paint does not get between the petals cones, so that there is some natural shadow.
7. Optional zenithal highlighting: from the top you can spray a bit of lighter colour, such as yellow.
8. Gently pull the nails out of boards with a narrow pliers .
9. Hot glue nails and cones to weights  - the steel nuts and to some cardboard. Position cone standing vertically on "tuber" glue, nails and bolts. Wait till cool. Take care that weights were at ground level, at the bottom. As a result, trees can be stored in standard containers lined magnetic foil.
10. With glue gun form successive layers of hot glue (preferably colored , but can be transparent): roots , trunk folds, branches. Let congeal on the carton. Once cooled, gently peel-away /cut from cardboard.
11. Optionally you may scratch the surface of the trunk with a file.
12. Paint gluetrunk, f.ex. violet . Lighten. Black wash.
13. Colorize grains of rice or wheat with a contrasting color, f.ex. ultramarine. After drying wet grains in glue and stick between the petals cones, creating exotic fruit or flowers.
14. Lacquer spray.

New Blog From 15mm.co.uk

Hey everybody,

15mm.co.uk has just kicked off its own blog for the vast range of miniatures they offer. For those of you who may not know of them, 15mm.co.uk is a company that offers a massive variety of science fiction. fantasy and historical ranges and much, much more. The blog is set to show news relevant to their product lines, including concepts for upcoming products.

Today they showcased the classic Laserburn Law Officer Air Raft that has now been remastered in resin. I love the classic styling on this model and feel it would be perfect for those looking for something very iconic to add to their collection. Seen below in a stunning Sam Croes paint job, it's everything you need to patrol the streets of a megacity, traverse the atomic aftermath, or hunt alien prey on exotic worlds.

I look forward to following the progress of this blog. Gavin's got an amazing amount of imagination and if this is a sign that it's about to be unleashed upon us, then I say bring it on! Jump over to the 15mm.co.uk blog and see for yourself.

Coolhand Customs - A New Blog About 3D Design of Miniatures

By Eli

Many of you may or may not recognise the name Coolhand, but you likely recognise his stuff. He's been working with folks in a variety of industries for years including miniatures. In his work with miniatures, I took note of him for the work he did on many of the designs from Khurasan Miniatures, but I know he has worked for others, including Armies Army.

Well he's started a blog "Coolhand Customs" focusing on his work for the miniatures industry and I thought it might be worth checking out. I find it's always fun and interesting to read some of the thoughts of the creators of these brilliant 3D designs. More of his work can be seen at his other blog "Coolhand Graphics".

I very much enjoy his work. He's got a good eye for details and a pretty broad range when it comes to subject matter and styles. I'm sure this makes him a wonder to work with and I know that he's been more than accommodating to my various enquiries over the years. I would love to work with him on a project sometime, but I'm just not sure what yet.

Take care,

-Eli
