Brigade Models shows off fancy new infantry sculpts!

From: http://www.brigademodels.co.uk/Blog/2015/03/pbi/

Brigade Models is showing off some awesome new infantry sculpted by Martin Baker:

Salute 2015 is now about five-and-a-half weeks away. Loads of time, aeons. That said, the show edition of Miniature Wargames has just dropped through the letterbox which reminds us that we’re getting ever closer. We’ve been planning our show releases since before Xmas, although as always we’ll be panicking up to the last minute I’m sure ! It’s time to start previewing them, which we’ll do over the coming 3-4 weeks.

The first batch of masters has arrived ready for moulding – and we have to admit to being quite excited by them. Although we have a few packs of figures in our 15mm range (some lovely PF aliens and bounty hunters, our Power Armour and some very useful tank crew) we don’t have any straightforward, ground-pounder infantry. So we’ve got together with Martin Baker and he’s sculpted us some really excellent figures, based around some 3D designed and printed weapons. These are straight out of the package that came in the post this morning, and will be off for moulding tomorrow so I haven’t had long to get them photographed. Click on the photos for larger versions if you’d like to see more.

As you can see we have a number of infantry poses, plus command, support weapons (SAW, grenade launcher and rocket launcher), snipers and heavy weapons crewmen. The gunners will be paired up with tripod mounted versions of our pintel weapons (unfortunately I didn’t have any to hand when I took the photos). They will be sold in packs of eight figures (or equivalent), although we haven’t finalised the exact contents just yet. Having these available will also allow us to create platoon packs of APCs with crew and infantry and we’ll also create complete army packs of tanks, APCs, infantry and support vehicles.

Check out more previews on their website!

DLD Productions has launched their Kickstarter to bring their kits into plastic!

Check out the Kickstarter here!

The Kickstarter runs until Apr 21 2015:

"This is WAR!"  The 23rd century is a time of turmoil. The CMF or Coalition of Military Forces, (which is made up of the remnants of the old North Atlantic Treaty Organization), are embattled with the Opposition Forces, (which is a unified Russia and China), or OPFOR, for not only Earth domination, but space as well. CMF-held worlds and colonies fighting off hordes of OPFOR units, as they struggle to hang on to their territories. Battles with tracked, wheeled and sometimes grav tanks and APC’s become nothing more than tangled masses of wrecked metal, plastic and…..sometimes…..soldiers.

"This is WAR!" is a 15mm ground based tabletop miniatures game, using a d6 system, to simulate vehicle to vehicle, vehicle to troop and troop to troop combat in the 23rd century.

Units are chosen from Platoon and Company cards, and the models and figures are placed on the battlefield in accordance to the scenario. Units are "activated" one platoon at a time, alternating sides. Once the game has ended, victory points are tallied up from the backs of the Platoon and/or Company cards, and the winner is then determined.

This game simulates hand to hand combat with troops, and also hand to hand with vehicles. The game is fast paced and brutal.

"This is WAR!"

What we would like to see happen, is that our entire 15mm futuristic/scifi product line be switched from resin castings....to plastic injection.

Why would we want to do this?

There are several simple reasons:

#1. Production times......production times will go WWAAYYY down!.....as a plastic injection machine can create several sprues a minute as opposed to only one every few hours with resin…......that means, product will be made at a wicked fast rate!

#2. Ease of manufacture. That means that the finicky nature of resin materials will become a thing of the past. No more moisture contaminating resin stock and thus creating waste. No more having an improper mixture go bad, also creating waste.

#3. Cost. Once the cost of the mold has been funded, the cost of the plastic material, per sprue, will greatly reduce the cost to you. They directly relate to one another. That means.....you can get bigger more diverse armies!! And it won't cost a home remortgage!

#4. Weight. The plastics will cost less to ship, (and carry around!), so, shipping will become more of a stable platform. Instead of having to figure out if you can afford the shipping for this that and the other thing, you can concentrate on the more important things in life.....like......building a gianormous army in which to crush your enemies!!!!

#5. "This is WAR!" We went and decided that we need a fast paced, brutal as all get out 15mm tabletop game, featuring our OWN kits, and troops and such! So.....we did! Our great 15mm futuristic/scifi kits with a wickedly brutal game system to accompany them!!

So there you have it...5 really good reasons for this Kickstarter. But we cannot do it alone. We need your help. Let's make this happen, and get this ball rolling!

Support our Kickstarter!

Team DLD

Ion Age Planetary Militia Gets Some Heavy Support

Hey All,

So, we're a little late getting this posted, but as they say, "better late than never".

Last week, the good folks at The Ion Age released two wonderful, new battlesuits to accompany their planetary militia figures. The Steornede battlesuits come in two variety - missile and cannon- armed. The weapon pods are universally mounted, so it also stands to reason a little mix and match might be had if you wanted to diversify your loud outs. They would also work nicely as robots, if you universe does not include piloted battlesuits.

For full details on the models you can read about them, the militia and more- HERE

Double Duty, Part Two: Gundams That Don't Look Like Gundams

This is a continuation of my Double Duty series, using models and figures from other sources that can still pass as 15mm/1-100th scale.

Here's the link to Part One.

I love Gundam models from Bandai.  Chances are, if you're a mechahead, you like them, too.  But, if you want to use "scale-correct" 1/100th Gundams, you're dealing with an 180 mm/7 inch tall model or larger.

Unless you're fighting Kaiju (which is cool, don't get me wrong), that's usually too big for most tabletops.

Thus, many folks, myself included, use the smaller, cheaper 1/144th scale Bandai Gundam kits, which range from 4.5 to 5.5 inches tall (114mm to 139mm).

The problem is, most folks know the classic Zeon/Earth Federation styling (samurai crests, blue/white/red/yellow color patterns, green and red Zaku sensor domes, etc.).

This leads to awkward questions of why you're using 1/144th scale models on a 15mm (roughly 1/100th scale) tabletop.  Can't have that, can we?  ;)

So, the focus of this article is Gundams that don't look like Gundams, that still fit on your tabletop, that don't break the bank.

First up is the 1/144th scale Jesta Cannon mobile suit.  Some serious firepower, there.

A more utilitarian variant, maybe to be used as a main battle mecha or common "soldier" type, is the 1/144th scale Jesta.

A neat mobile suit is the dual-cannon 1/144th scale Kampfer Amazing.  I like the sleek, almost aquatic look to it.

The 1/144th scale GM Sniper II Custom has some personality to it, though it has the classic shield and lower legs of a Gundam.  The external ammo compartments and sensor visor break up the normal design style, though.

This is a 1/144th scale Hi-Mock Simulator Suit, apparently a training suit used by junior pilots.  It's look is just generic enough, to me, that it doesn't scream Zaku or even Gundam.  Just a clean arrangement of geometric shapes.  I think this would lend itself nicely to customization.

To finish out this article, here's a mobile suit that will probably never be misjudged as the wrong-sized kit on your tabletop:  The 1/144th scale Beargguy Mobile Suit, and its yellow (and ribbon-backpacked!) 1/144th scale Beargguy III Mobile Suit.

So, there you have it.  Just some variety in your mecha purchases.  After all, Destroids, Mortis Leviathans, and L-HACs need someone their own size to pick on.

On Behalf Of Dropship Horizon,

Edit to Add:

Hat tip to Jason Spykerman for suggesting the 1/144th scale Grimoire mobile suit.  Very cool look.

I know this list is nowhere near comprehensive, but if you have suggestions, feel free to add them in the comment section.

Brand new releases coming rolling throught at Brigade Models!

Check it out here.

One of the forces in our 6mm range that has never really been properly represented in 15mm (apart from a couple of odd tanks) is the American Republic. As you may have seen on our blog recently, we’ve got round to rectifying this at last with seven brand new vehicles and variants.

The two existing models, the Curtiss Heavy Tank and Kochte BT have both been replaced by brand new sculpts, and we've added the Baumann MICV and Oldmann light tank plus several variants.

All are available singly, and the Curtiss, Kochte and Oldmann are also available in discounted Platoon Packs of three vehicles, stowage and crew.

SF15-202 – Curtiss Heavy Tank – £9.00
SF15-203 – Baumann MICV – £8.00
SF15-203a – Baumann AA – £8.00
SF15-203b – Baumann w/missile turret – £8.00
SF15-206 – Oldmann Light Tank – £5.00
SF15-206a – Oldmann w/missile turret – £5.00
SF15-208 – Kochte MBT – £8.00
PP15-202 – Curtiss Platoon Pack – £26.00
PP15-206 – Oldmann Platoon Pack – £14.00
PP15-208 – Kochte Platoon Pack – £23.00

If you’re outside the EU, remember that you don’t need to pay VAT – so the price you pay is only 5/6ths of that shown above, which should go some way towards offsetting the postage costs.

Model Brush Reviews 15mm Ion Age Terrain

From the Ion Age Blog

Model Brush is a wargaming review website run by a small group of talented guys in Spain. Late in 2014 they approached us to review our Ion Age Terrain Range on their website. Specifically we sent them the introductory starter set IAF044BU01 Habitation Outpost Bundle which has a 20% saving giving a great overview of our terrain range.

You can access the product review HERE.

The review looks in depth and impartially at the pieces in the Habitation Outpost Bundle and features many images and opinions. They look at the Hab Domes, the Connector Corridors, the Turret Modules, the Pressure Door, Crossroads Connector and the Power Spire. I like their review style and I will leave you with the final line from the review:

“We can only say good things about these little outpost: the quality is great and the size is bigger than we expected. The only bad thing about it is… that we want the bigger outpost packs!!! (Meanwhile, we have started painting this outpost, so stay tuned for it!)”
