It's HAMMER Time!

.
Rebel Minis HAMMER SUIT!
Barking MAD..... but rather tasty with it!

See more WIP details over at John Bear Ross's blog here (Click me!) and (Part 2 here!). I wonder if mecha sized combat knives will be the weapon of choice in the future?

If you don't like the idea of a plexi-glass/plas-steel cockpit then paint it as a metal/camo shell - the operator is working from virtual screens in front of him or fed to his helmet visor.

Available from Rebel Minis soon:

  1. Yay! Just so you know, the 4 sprued magazine pouches are intended to be attached where the pilot wishes via maglock. Some prefer the sides of the hull, some the front of the thigh. Extra magazines can be checked out of the armory for intense or long-term missions, and can be maglocked to the top of the main hull or wherever is convenient.

  2. I like this model a lot, but I would love to see a versions with the knife stowed and both hand holding the gun and the legs in a walking pose.

  3. Mike has a few alternate sprues planned. Also, the back deck holds promise for bolted-on support accessories.

  4. Very cool! I'm really looking forward to seeing further developments of this model - and something similar to use as OpFor!

  5. Shawn,
There are other Hammer Suits in production, with similar layouts, but more advanced in design styling. Stay tuned.

  6. I don't really like the big arm, hand, big knife, and big gun, to me, this should look less humanoid and more mechanic (ie pod monted heavy weapon, or something like that). Otherwise, the overall design is very good!

  7. And i would love to see empty hands that are seen on concept art for it !

Its great, but i dont want mega knives on my combat walkers...as i dont want bayonets on my MBTs :>

  8. Nice concept - for me let down by the combat knife - which is indeed barking mad! Now one of these with blaster/flamer arms and shoulder launched missile pods would be near perfect. I love the way that the model has somewhere for a 15mm man to operate it from and an access pannel for him to enter/exit the suit.

  9. I have to agree with the last few comments. As with GZG's recent 'suits, I'm not keen on them being armed with what are simply upscaled versions of the weaponry the grunts come with. As for Combat knives....."bayonets on tanks" is a great analogy!

  10. If you guys really want the Infantry walkers that you're describing, then why not purchase the Battletech/CAV walkers that already exist?

Infantry walkers with hands in this scale are in short supply, with the rather expensive DP9 Heavy Gear ones as the only real option prior to GZG/Rebel Miniatures new stuff.

  11. Big knife for a big Jungle, ok. But gear like that is engineering / or path-breaking kit for a walker.
I like the idea of a big, anthropomorphic working machine; something that lets soldiers do grunt work intuitively with arms and hands. From that perspective it's fine that their guns fit the profile of a giant infantry weapon, even if they are 30mm automatic 'cannon'.
After all, bigger walkers are available for bigger weapons.

  12. Is this about the same size as the CMG walker thingies?

  13. Negative. The Arc Fleet Walker is about 1/2 inch taller, and a bit beefier. Different purposes, different designs. Same brilliant designer, though :0)

  14. Sounds like same ballpark though.

  15. I like the core designs of both the GZG Battlesuits and Rebel Minis 'Hammer' just not the gear choices. For instance I bought two packs of GZG new Battlesuits with heavy weapons.

No design is going to suit everyone but I think helping manufacturers make informed choices - by discussing the potentially positive and negative aspects of the designs is a good thing.

Sales will always determine whether a miniature or model design works as intended.

  16. Yes, Anon, they are in the same ballpark. Both would look great, fighting on the same or opposite sides of the same gaming table.

And, indeed, Mark, the market will decide. Hopefully, it will decide to buy all of them!

  17. I thought I would chime in here about the combat blade. I asked John to do it because, well, I have always been a big fan of Gundam and alot of different Japanese style fighting robots. I wanted something different that had a little feel from the things I like :)
We will have other weapon packages, open hands, stowage and other parts that go with this design. There will be alot of choices in the future.

  18. I don't care for the combat knife, either, but as John has said that other sprues with different weapon varieties are on the way, I'm not bugged by it. I'd by these even with the knives, which I'd simply carve off and replace with something else.

Kit bashing means never having to be sorry. ;)

I'm looking forward to seeing the new varieties of this figure, though, which I really like.

  19. See, and while I was typing, Mike came in and re-verified that folks who don't want the knife aren't going to be stuck with it.

Heh. Stuck with it. Get it? ;D

  20. Oh i will get them for sure.

But i will probably wait or the kniveless hands ( preferably open ).

And i will make mine armopured, not plexi glassed :>

As to weapons, i am not really bothered bu them, as long as i like the looks of them.

Actualy making them hand held (or easily replacable modular basis) have a sense to them. Maintaining gun in combat enviroment in MBT is imposible and any scrach to it removes tank from combat.
Now this guy, wait for supply to send him new gun, and is back in the action in no time.
And can be armed to mision specifics.

Its MBM like main battle mech
MBW ? Main battle walker ? hmmm
    :P

  22. I think I may have found Combat Walkers for 2300 AD gaming! I'll take a dozen!

  23. Very nicely done. I usually use walkers in my Traveller games as belter/construction units rather than military. Though this one makes think: 'Axemen in Traveller'. :)
