GZG HALLOWEEN SPECIAL - TRICK OR TREAT?

Another awesome sale from Ground Zero Games

Well, the "treat" is that there is no "trick" - just a simple, straight 20% discount off EVERYTHING on our webstore, starting NOW and running for the next FOUR DAYS ONLY, ending at MIDNIGHT UK TIME on Friday the 31st October!

The first couple of weeks of November will be very busy with making stock ready for WARFARE at Reading - so this is a nice big incentive for you to get any orders in this week before I get stuck in to the show preparations!

There are no special codes or vouchers to enter - you will see that all the prices on the store are now displayed with 20% off (and don't forget that they are still the VAT-inclusive prices, so if you're outside the EU then you'll get the VAT deducted as well) - so  just place your order as normal, and you'll only pay the discounted prices.

In addition to the sale offer, we have FIVE new packs of 15mm infantry released today - and yes, these all qualify for the 20% discount too! (Prices shown here are the regular retail prices).

New Hammer's Slammers and Tomorrow's War Infantry from Ground Zero Games

by Chris

Ground Zero Games has added three more infantry packs to their web store - supporting two of the most popular rules systems in the 15mm sci fi universe.

The Hammer's Slammers infantry have been resculpted, and they are definitely up to the high standards set by the NAC, New Israeli, and UNSC. The new Slammers Infantry pack includes 2 each of 4 new poses - all armed with the Slammers' trademark 2cm Powergun.

Providing heavy support to the infantry is the Buzzbombs and Bloopers pack - containing four Slammers armed with Buzzbomb missile launchers and four with the Blooper grenade launcher.

Both packs will be quite popular among Hammer's Slammers fans (and really, any 15mm player who likes their appearance). They're a nice complement to the re-released Slammers vehicles at Ainsty Castings and the revised Eurofed vehicles at Brigade Models.

If the Slammers troops seem a little fragile for your tastes, you might like the new US Power Armor in the Tomorrow's War range.

This pack includes six multi-part Power Armor figures - two each of three body poses, three each of two different weapon arms (plasma guns and autocannons), and six optional backpacks with integrated mini-launchers. These are a very good option for hard sci-fi power armored figures.

Tomorrow's War "By Dagger & Talon" Review

By Harold

Available here: http://ambushalleygames.com/products/store/product/show/cid-101/name-by-dagger-or-talon-preorder-a-pdf/category_pathway-0  $30.00

Ever since I've first heard of the supplement to Tomorrow's War by Ambush Alley Games called "By Dagger & Talon" I've been looking forward to it.   While the main Tomorrow's War rulebook did an excellent job in capturing the idea of what future sci-fi warfare would be, it didn't have the space to expound on some of my favorite sci-fi elements: aliens and special forces.

The cover, the figures are available from GZG, and the buildings from GameCraft Miniatures

"By Dagger & Talon" became available for pre-orders last week, and had a great deal that if you pre-order the print book, you get the PDF immediately and for free!

Well, of course as soon as I saw that I had to pick it up.

Product Review - GZG Darghaur and Crusty Civilians

By Eli Arndt

A while back I received a couple of sample review packs from Jon at GZG for some of his new alien offerings and I thought it was time to review them.

The first of these was TW15-DG01 "Darghaur ten-pack". This pack of figures is a sort of sampler bag of the basic Darghaur figures and contains ten figures and sprues of separate heads depicting the various Darg ranks. The pack contains 7 poses armed with their basic combat weapon, 2 with their heavy weapon, and one with their SAW-type weapon.

This pack allows you to build three fire teams based on the Darg's TO&E from the upcoming alien and special forces supplement for Tomorrow's War "By Dagger and Talon". It also allows a single leader type for the overall unit. Other packs are going to be released in the future.

The sculpts are nice and clean as is expected from Ground Zero Games. The weapons are clearly detailed and the aliens armor and anatomy come through with little effort. One thing that might catch some gamers off guard is that the Dargs don't seem to have any visible sensory organs and only have horns or sawed-off stumps of them on their heads. This is evidently how they depict rank. The sprues for the heads are nicely arranged and the heads easily popped off without any tools and had little sockets to glue into on the bodies.

I have to say that I really enjoy these aliens. They seem to inhabit that subtle line between truly alien humanoid enough to be accessible to us human folk. They have two arms, two legs, and a torso, but that's where the resemblance ends.

The second pack of aliens was a rare treat when it comes to scifi figures let alone aliens - CIVILIANS!

SG15-X16 Crusty Non-Combatants is a pack of eight (8) figures in four (4) poses and represents a sampling of ordinary civilian Crusties. The figures really seem to depict a day in the life with the poses being quite neutral and suitable for everything from background characters, to refugees, or even objective markers for scenarios.

I have included Jon's catalog picture to give a nice crisp look at the figures but I've held them and look at them and I feel these figures are full of character. From the playful juvenile to the very young being carried by and adult down to the kneeling figure getting into his satchel (would make a good tech) they all succeed in putting a "face" on what might otherwise be a faceless alien menace.

Details are crisp and there was minimal work needed to clean these up. I think the worst I had was a bit of mold venting that needed to be clipped off but there were no mold lines or flash.

GZG Review - New and Preview

Hello all,

This is the first in a few posts that have been a long-time coming. Jon from Ground Zero Games was kind enough to send me some samples and previews of some of his recently (and not so) released miniatures, for the purposes of review. Life got in the way but has calmed some, so here they are.

TW-DP1 DPRG Sample Pack
The DPRG Army Sample Pack contains two of the above fire teams, each containing two MGs, one leader, and two rifles. These figures were created as part of the partnership between Ambush Alley and GZG for the Tomorrow's War miniatures rules.

The details on these figures are as sharp and crisp as any of then ewer GZG figures and the casts had little to no flash or mold lines. These figures are wearing a swept back sort of helmet with visor and light body armor in the form of a solid chest piece with a flexible lower armor. Weapons are a nice combination of sleek and functional similar to many of the weapons seen in modern science fiction movies where real guns have been put into makeup and made to look like future weapons.

I feel that these troopers are well suited to everything from next generation warfare all the way into the more far-flung but grittier settings like Aliens. The helmets, visors, and ribbed armor even make them suitable for 1970s/early 80's science fiction such as Traveller or Star Frontiers.

TW-RA1 RA Sample Pack
Another of the Tomorrow's War packs, TW-RA1 is structured identically as the above pack save that it represents a different faction. One again, two MGs, a leader, and two rifles.

These figures are a bit more hard scifi or what some people might refer to as speculative future figures and appear much more connected to current views of and designs for future warriors. They are depicted wearing a modern style helmet with monocular optics and some sort of head-mounted camera/light. Body armor is a segmented body piece and reinforced arm and leg fatigues with protective pads and guards. The weapons are much more "familiar" looking with the MGs looking like something off today's battlefield and the assault rifles a sleek, compact model with a forward grip.

Once again, the quality of these miniatures is very nice. Crisp details, minimal/no flash and no mold lines.

The next couple of reviews are for upcoming releases. These were sent to me without any heads-up and were a very happy surprise.

UNSC/H Hardsuited Infantry
These are another in Jon's series of updates on his older ranges. I am pretty sure this one has been on people's wish lists for some time and I think that while not entirely identical to the original figures, they are certainly a fair update of that aesthetic.

The samples I received, may constitute a full pack of figures, given GZG's normal pack layout, but i cannot be sure. It included two heavy gunners (SAW?) and six riflemen. There are a total of three different walking poses for the riflemen, giving these figures a rather menacing, afraid of nothing sort of feel.

Aesthetically speaking, these figures differ from the original version in that the helmets seem to be slightly different shaped being swept up in the back. This gives them a marginally teardrop shape when viewed from the side. I suppose this would allow the helmet to clear things on the troopers back and when looking up.

I do have one minor gripe regarding these figures and that is that they do not seem to have much in common, aesthetically, with the UNSC Light Infantry other than their rifles. This is a very minor grumble and really could just be explained away by the difference in hard armor and light troops, but the lighter troops do look slightly higher concept than these whole definitely have a classic 70s/80s scifi look to them. However, I know plenty of people have wanted an update of these favorite GZG figs (myself included) and that is just what these are.

FSE Legionaires
I hadn't heard a murmur about these, so was very nicely surprised to find these two sample figures in my package. Once again, GZG has brought us a faithful update of the older range with both kepi and full helmeted troops offered. Armored details are clearly defined and show the original segmented body armor, shoulder plates and reinforced fatigue legs and arms.

CONCLUSIONS
All of these figures show just how nice the new and updated figures from GZG are. For the most part the details are all crisply sculpted with little in the way of soft detailing or "lazy" sculpting. Being new the molding and casting are all top notch as they should be with no slippage and minimal flash.

One personal favorite of the new figures is their consistent and very nice integral bases. Many people do not like the round bases but I find that they are very useful when securing the figures for painting as they give a greater area for my lightweight adhesives to grip onto so I don't have superglue them to my painting sticks. These are easy enough to clip off if i need to fit them onto a crowded base or the back of a vehicle.

More to come soon...

-Eli

More Fun From GZG!

A quick heads-up for DH that the three new packs we released at WARFARE are now on the store and available to buy - these rather slipped out unnoticed as I launched the Xmas offers at the same time!

We have the first pack of DARGHAUR for TW as previewed a few weeks ago, plus command/comms packs for the RA and DPRG forces from the Tomorrow's War range:

GZG Previews New 15mm Science Fiction

Jon from Ground Zero Games was nice enough to send this preview with pics and everything to us here at Dropship Horizon. I'll let him speak for himself on this. Read below. It's a big one!!!

Hi all,
This Sunday (14th) is SELWG at Crystal Palace, London - hopefully we'll see many of our regulars there!

We've got a nice bundle of new items ready just in time for the show
- full details below, they'll be up on the store very soon with pictures.

This is what we have for you this time round.....

............

The first full production releases for the Official TOMORROW'S WAR 15mm range! We are launching EIGHT packs in the first wave - our normal 8-figure packs with 2 each of 4 different sculpts in each pack
- four each for both the DPRG (Democratic Peoples' Republic of Glory) and RANG (Republic of Arden National Guard):

TW15-RA01   RANG rifles pack A (8 figs, 4 different poses)
TW15-RA02   RANG rifles pack B (8 figs, 4 different poses)

TW15-RA03   RANG SAW gunners (8 figs, 4 different poses)
TW15-RA04   RANG MRAWs and Snipers (8 figs, 4 different poses)

__________________________________________________________________

TW15-DP01   DPRG rifles pack A (8 figs, 4 different poses)
TW15-DP02   DPRG rifles pack B (8 figs, 4 different poses)

TW15-DP03   DPRG SAW gunners (8 figs, 4 different poses)
TW15-DP04   DPRG RPGs and Snipers (8 figs, 4 different poses)

All TW15 packs are £3.60 each inc. VAT (£3.00 ex VAT for non-EU customers)

The moulds for these are very new and not yet run-in, so we haven't been able to cast many for this weekend - so at SELWG on Sunday we will have VERY LIMITED stocks of these packs. If you want to be among the first to have some, come and see us as soon as you arrive!
For those of you who bought our pre-release taster packs of the DPRG and RANG figures (pack codes TW-DP1 and TW-RA1, which will shortly be withdrawn from sale), please note that the sample figures previewed in those packs have been reissued in the production packs above - but with many new pose variants added to the range, so the figures you already have will fit right into your new units.

................

As well as the Tomorrow's War range, we are also launching several new items in our SG15/V15 ranges this weekend:

For our very popular UNSC Light Infantry range, we have a pack of RAM MORTAR TEAMS, a pack of GRAV BIKES for fast attack and recon units, and a manned groundmount HEAVY PLASMA CANNON that makes an great emplaced defensive weapon:

SG15-U28    UNSC/L RAM Mortars - two teams (2 weapons, 2 tripod
mounts and 4 crew figures)
£3.00 per pack inc. VAT (£2.50 ex VAT for non-EU customers)

V15-92A           UNSC/L Grav Bikes - pack of 2 bikes, 2 riders, 2 stands
£4.50 per pack inc. VAT (£3.75 ex VAT for non-EU customers)

V15-93A           Heavy Plasma Cannon on ground mount, with UNSC/L gunner
£3.00 each inc. VAT (£2.50 ex VAT for non-EU customers)

Plus, for the NAC, another great little vehicle for your rapid-mobility forces - to go with the very popular Mules and Trikes, we have a hybrid light carrier with the front wheels and rider of the all-terrain trike, attached to a small load-bed running on tracks (rather like the German Kettenkrad!). Due to the vehicle's parentage, and despite it being a slight misnomer (as it has two wheels and two tracks), the troops using this versatile little transport tend to call it the "Halftrike". The loadbed can carry a palletised cargo load, a fireteam of seated troops or, for attack and escort duties, a gunner and rollbar-mounted weapon. The kit is supplied with two alternative weapons, a rapid-fire autocannon and an automatic grenade launcher.

V15-94A           NAC "Halftrike" light load carrier, supplied with
driver, gunner and two alternative weapons.
£4.50 each inc. VAT (£3.75 ex VAT for non-EU customers)

Last but not least, we have a variant version of our extremely popular "spider drones" - this time replacing the twin cannon of the 84A version with a single rotary tribarrel cannon:

V15-84B           Spider Drones with rotary cannon (pack of 3)
£3.00 per pack inc. VAT (£2.50 ex VAT for non-EU customers)

..................

Hopefully that's enough to be going on with - for the Vacc-Heads out there, sorry that it's all 15mm again, but I AM working on getting some new FT stuff ready in time for WARFARE in November - so you haven't been completely forgotten!

All the best,

Jon (GZG)
