This Pre-Release edition of TOMORROW'S WAR is an expansion for FORCE ON FORCE, first edition. TOMORROW'S WAR will be available later this month to download with the full colour printed edition due from Osprey next year.
It's good! Oh boy, it's good!
Cheers

I am very very curious about it!!!
ReplyDeleteFINALLY! I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteDoc Simian aka @Trustyfedora
They've got my money - I need some platoon-size rules for stuff that 5150 doesn't work as well for. Can't wait to slam together Major Blackmoore's TO&E.
ReplyDeleteSo this is an expansion for Ambush Alley? I thought this was going to be a standalone ruleset... that actually makes it a bit less appealing to me.
ReplyDeleteChris
It is a stand alone rule set, it's just that some of the mechanics are the descendants of Ambush Alley/Force on Force.
ReplyDeleteAt least, last time I saw it! lol
ReplyDeleteAh, that sounds better. I just like the idea of buying a modern ruleset that I wouldn't play just so I could use the sci-fi rules. :)
ReplyDeleteChris
I should point out though that I last saw it before the osprey deal was announced and it was rather a long time ago, so things might have changed since then. Should probably keep my mouth shut and let a know-wot answer the question. :-)
ReplyDeleteHere's what we're doing with the Tomorrow's War pre-release:
ReplyDeleteWe'll be selling it as an expansion to 1st Edition FoF for folks who already have FoF and bundled with the printer friendly version of FoF for those that don't. The cost difference between the two will be negligible and both sets will be pretty inexpensive.
Regardless of whether you own Force on Force or not, just wait to see what Tomorrow's War brings to the table.
ReplyDeleteTomorrow's War is THE set of wargames rules that THIS Sixth Former from 1978/9 has been waiting for to play classic Traveller: Mercenary missions as I always visualised them.
After 30 years, the wait is over.
Cheers
Mark
sweeet love fof. been looking forward to this release.
ReplyDeleteI am a little bit disappointed that TW is just an add on, on Force on Force.
ReplyDeleteI am a big fan of Ambush Alley, but to be honest I think FoF is confusing - so I will wait for the Osprey version of TW.
Burkhard
After all these comments I feel more and more (and more) curious about it...
ReplyDeleteOk, so we can access the download when/how?
ReplyDeleteWe should announce a release date in the next day or so. I'm putting together the layout packet for our layout artist right now.
ReplyDeleteCan the new rules handle aliens, real big vehicles and drop ships?
ReplyDeleteYes, yes, and yes.
ReplyDeleteThat's yes, yes and Oh yes!
ReplyDeleteLOL!
Mark
Then release them already :op
ReplyDelete*LOL* I have to wait for Dixie McCartney, our layout artist, to finish her magic!
ReplyDeleteWe'll definitely be "Hot Dropping" them to a planetary surface near you soon! ;)
Sounds great Shawn. Claus and I will be playing some 15mm SciFi at Viking Con here in Denmark (Last year we played Ambush Alley). Would be cool if they were ready for some action....hint hint.
ReplyDeleteFrom a post I made over on TMP:
ReplyDeleteThe Tomorrow's War expansion will sell for $15. USD
Tomorrow's War bundled with the printer friendly version of FoF will be $5 USD more, for a total of $20. USD
This is a pre-release version – it contains the core rules for the stand-alone Tomorrow's War print version that we'll be publishing with Osprey in September of 2011. It doesn't contain all the fluff, photography, or AMAZING art you'll see in the final version, but it does have everything you need to play. There will be a few minor differences in next year's version to reflect the changes we're making in 2nd Edition FoF – but honestly, most of those changes are relatively minor.
TW does contain our re-worked vehicle rules, though, so you'll get a sneak peek at what those will be like in FoF II, albeit in a SciFi setting.
We're putting it out this way as a service to our fans whom we assured would have the game this year – it doesn't seem fair to make them wait till 2011 for something just because we entered into a new business arrangement. We're doing the bundle deal for those new to our games who want to get a jump start on Tomorrow's War.
Release is imminent – a layout draft is with our layout artist. I hope to give you all a solid release date Monday.
Hope this helps!
Okay... pricewise it is definitely NOT an issue to buy both books. So here's my question. When I sit down to play a game of Tomorrow's War (since it is an expansion), how much will I need to refer to the Force on Force rulebook? Ever since I gave up on GW products I've developed a psychological aversion to needing multiple books just to play a simple wargame. But Mark is so giddy about TW that I don't think I can wait another year to play it. :)
ReplyDeleteChris
My (obviously biased) opinion is that once you've played FoF a couple of times you rarely need to consult the rulebook - we tried to keep most of the mechanics pretty transparent and, above all, universal. Hopefully Mark or some other less biased person will chime in, but I don't believe you'll find yourself doing much page-flipping after the first couple of games.
ReplyDeleteShawn, I think what Chris is asking, does he NEED to own FoF in order to play Tom War.
ReplyDeleteAnd the answer is, if you aren't aware of the core mechanisms, yes.
However, there's screeds of Futuristic/Sci Fi goodness in the Tom War pre-release that can enhance any current Modern or Sci Fi rules you currently use.
Shawn is correct in that only a couple of plays of FoF are required to have it off pat. I read it through, wrote the core points on an A4 sheet and got gaming. After that it's pretty much free-flow.
Cheers
Mark
Sorry about that, Chris! I thought you were asking if it took a lot of cross checking to play the game. Mark's on the money with his answer!
ReplyDelete-Shawn
I've been waiting for this for years now. I'm so looking forward to it.
