......You're Gonna Need A Bigger Dropship!

.
Jon at Khurasan Miniatures has exclusively sent me this sketch of his forthcoming Orca Heavy Assault Warriors and it is awesome! Just plain awesome! The sketch has been based closely on the sculpted figures.

The sculptor is Pedro Ramos from Spain. The Orca Warrior is armed with:

- Barnacle suit-mounted smart missile system,
- Ahab power harpoon (the favoured weapon of the Orcas -- most use two and they often hand craft them)
- Baleen class Gatling gun.

Incidentally, A human's head is at the same height as the Orca's mouth. Convenient eh!

I can't wait to see these!

Quick Parasachnid Conversion

.
This is a great mini-diorama, it's a shame Jon doesn't sell a resin landscaped base as an extra for the drop-pod.

Despite the fact it would reduce the versatility of the drop-pod, I'm certainly tempted to make up 3-4 mini dioramas like this for my tabletop.

Whilst on the subject of Parasachnids - these little beauties come in two parts - body and legs, all 4 being cast in one-piece. The body has a ball joint that allows a small degree of variation when mounting on the legs - so your Parasachnids aren't regimented.

Now, the four legs basic Parasachnid is fine, but you know, it doesn't scare me! So messing around with the pack, I mounted one set of legs ontop of the other, popped the body on top and voila! "Uhh, actually, it's kind of like champagne that way"..... the 'spider' Parasachnid!

Eight legs and tons of teeth!

Latest Intel......Khurasan Miniatures New Vehicles

.

Jon at Khurasan Miniatures informs us:

More 15mm vehicles are now available for the Pelagic Dominate, a galactic empire of mysterious sentient aquatics bent on the extermination of all terrestrial sentient life. They are the Sea Wasp light anti-grav vehicle, and a disposable Drop Pod.

The Sea Wasp operates as a nimble, deadly fighter in space or in high altitude, and, at low altitude or NOE, can act as a ground support vehicle or a scout, guiding massive artillery barrages with its advanced fire control dish.

Closely resembling the massive Man of War heavy anti-grav craft, the Sea Wasp is a great deal smaller and looks perfect as a small fighter craft, light hover tank or even a heavy drone. Though conceived to take one (invertebrate) Cnidarian as a pilot, the model can also represent a single seat fighter craft for a vertebrate, assuming that the pilot is semi-reclining like the driver of an M1 tank.

Each Sea Wasp kit comes with three interchangable turret fittings: twin barreled Nematocyst cannons; missile turret; or the large sensor dish for remote fire control.

The second vehicle is an insertion pod for the arachnoid terrors which the Dominate spills atop the enemy to sow panic and disorder. Crammed into these pods, the mindless beasts swarm out and over the enemy's first line of defense, initially supported by a light grenade launcher mounted on the mast of the pod.

Of course the pod can also deploy your troopers in any game setting that demands aggressive planetfall!

Both are available now from Khurasan Miniatures.

Thanks for the intel Jon

Khurasan Miniatures: 15mm Pelagic SEA WASP

.
I want to introduce you to one of my favourite models at the moment. The 15mm Khurasan Miniatures Pelagic Sea Wasp.

Khurasan Miniatures 15mm Sci Fi
Pelagic Sea Wasp

Khurasan TTC-1001 Corporate Marine for comparison

The Sea Wasp is a small Grav 'flyer' that matches the design concepts of Jon's Pelagic 'Man o' War' series Grav Tank and Grav APC.

The model comes on a sprue with a selection of three 'turret options'. A twin laser turret, a remote grenade launcher, and a disk shaped attachment (radar/sensors?). The pack also contains a metal base. The photo below shows upper and lower detail of the main model with a Khurasan TTC-1001 Corporate Marine for comparison. Jon expects the price to be $4.29, but this is still to be confirmed.

This is a small, dinky Grav flyer that has a myriad of game uses. In it's conventional role, it deserves to be deployed on the table in 'squadrons' rather than as a single unique model.

It's perfect as an Alien or even High-tech Human 'Flyer' in Alien Squad Leader but I think the Sea Wasp will also make a great high velocity 'escape pod', so I plan to use one as a crashed 'objective' marker within a variety of scenarios.

But mostly, I want to give the Sea Wasps an alternative role as 'rapid re-entry' stealth drop 'pods' used by Sci Fi Special Operations Forces such as Rebel Minis' Infiltrator miniatures. Imagine a Merville Battery style scenario, where Infiltrators are landing on top of a planetary defence battery to effect maximum surprise and disable the generators before the main orbital assault.

New Khurasan Miniatures Pelagic Drop Pod

.
The Pelagic Dominate make full use of biological terror weapons in seizing other worlds. They mainly take the form of various space horrors - bred, transported, corralled into drop pods before being launched in their tens of thousands on unsuspecting planets. On the ground, the drop pods spring open to unleash the terrors and spread confusion and panic amongst defenders and civilians alike.

Khurasan Miniatures 15mm Sci Fi
Pelagic Dominate Drop Pod
$3.99 each (provisional - to be confirmed)

The Drop Pod comes as a two part kit - base, which represents the landed and open pod and the central column, with a small remote auto-cannon.

An amazing amount of detail is present on both the top and bottom of the drop pod. This allows you to model the pod in crashed or semi open condition - if you want to go to that amount of work.

The Drop pod measures 6x6cm and stands 30mm tall with the central column in place.

I have a couple of these Drop Pods already because I thought they would be immensely useful to mark the extent of drop zones and represent infantry drop pods regardless of their physical size on the tabletop.

I've only recently read that Ridley Scott is in talks to do a new Aliens movie, this time with Predators dropping the Aliens on Earth in drop pods. You've got to admit that Jon at Khurasan is ahead of the wave! - I can already see the Ambush Alley or similar scenarios where the Drop Pods land on present day Earth creating 'hotspots' out of which come tumbling the Khurasan Space Demons!

New Khurasan Miniatures 15mm Cnidarian Overlords

.
Tonight I'm pleased to present on Dropship Horizon, a 15mm Sci Fi senient alien species that is completely out of this world - the Pelagic Dominate Cnidarian Overlords.

Khurasan Miniatures 15mm Sci Fi
Pelagic Dominate Cndiarian Overlords

These are really substantial miniatures which have beautifully sculpted tentacles operating weapons. The painting shown here has really captured the detail. The Cnidarians are 20mm tall and have a 20mm wide integral metal base on which the leg tentacles are sculpted.

I can only take my hat off to Jon at Khurasan for dring to met gamers requests for an alien that is truly alien and not just the Dr Who man-in-rubber-suit monster from outer space.

3 miniatures come in a pack, each one consists of the main body, separate two 'arm' tentacles and separate generator unit.
