New Watercraft, Street Furniture and Steampunk Adventurers

By Chris

Some new releases for the week. First, The Scene added  seven new items to the Water Craft range. It's a nice little variety - a landing craft, an empty barge, a junker, some fan-driven swamp boats, and a few enclosed river boats that are just screaming "post apocalyptic pirates."

Mike promises even more additions to that range in the coming future - including hover and grav versions of several existing watercraft. It's definitely time to consider making a river or swamp table.. something for those GZG Crusties, Blue Moon Aquans, Khurasan Myzontids, or 15mm.Co.Uk Octopods to fight over.

*     *     *     *     *
Khurasan Minis has expanded the modern/future terrain range.

For street furniture, there are two vending machines (which are just begging to be painted as Slurm dispensers), some modern barrels (great for biohazardous waste), a street lamp, some really cool looking crates, a bench, and a street-sweeping robot.

On the starship/building interiors side, there is a control chair/station and bank of cryo pods:

These would be great additions to your chosen set of starship corridors and rooms, or inside laser-cut buildings from Mad Mecha Guy, CorSec Engineering, or GameCraft Minis.

*     *     *     *     *

For all you VSF and Pulp gamers out there - Rebel Minis' first pack of Steampunk Adventurers is now available.

15mm will be a great scale for these types of games - these figures would work in the Wild West, crawling through Egyptian pyramids, or exploring islands filled with rogue dinosaurs. I could even see these figures finding a place in narrative Space Western campaign settings.

Post Apocalyptic Warriors, Beasts, and Robots

All kinds of new releases this week.

Eleven items were released by The Scene today - they have promised 100 new items by November. The Wasteland Warriors range of post-apocalyptic mutants are reinforced with two different War Walkers.

Three new packs were added to the popular Heavy Battle Robots range, and will be very useful for everyone converting them into not-Space Marines. All three packs include separate arms - one pack is Heavy Weapons, another Hand Weapons/Guns, and finally Hand Weapons and Power Fists.

A new category has been added to The Scene's figure ranges - Alien Beasts. Three creatures are now available. And finally, two remastered buildings have been added to the Desert Dwellings range.

*     *     *     *     *

15mm.Co.Uk also has a variety of alien creatures - released under the SHM Range. Here are the Nessite and the Slurmite (the latter may have a fondness for highly addictive beverages):

And the furry Avarep Cobra (which might be a useful Ysalamiri for Star Wars games), along with the Galdor Burrower.

It's a nice little variety of creatures. I can imagine playing games where Nessites can appear out of water terrain, and Avarep Cobras can jump out of tree bases.

*     *     *     *     *

Splintered Light Minis is one of the finest producers of 15mm fantasy minis on the market. David's figures are always worth a look - many would be ideal primitives in mixed-technology games, and even hard SF gamers could put some of his beasts to use. While he's always had a couple packs of sci-fi minis (which don't resemble the crew of a famous smuggling vessel in any way...), David surprised everyone this week by unveiling an expansive post apocalptic range.

All four packs were inspired by the novel Through the Fury to the Dawn, which was written by David's brother-in-law. I hadn't heard of it until seeing these figures, and it's very tempting to pick up a book when I know there are perfect figures to wargame the setting. David released packs for Survivors (including the book's seven main characters), Zombies, Gangers, and Giant Ants.

And these figures certainly wouldn't be restricted to the setting within the book - they would mix extremely well with post-apocalyptic and horror figures from Rebel Minis, Highlander Studios, Khurasan, and the Wasteland Warriors mentioned above from The Scene.

Cheers,
Chris

The Scene - New Items and Sale Ending Today

The Scene's 20% off sale ends at midnight (UK time) today. If you haven't had a chance to order yet (or you've thought of even more goodies to buy), Mike released a few new terrain items this week.

For the Building Accessories range, there are a few new air conditioning units, a new rooftop/freestanding storage tank, and some new hatches and ventilation fans.

The Heavy Weapons and Miscellaneous range welcomes a new missile launcher system in two different sizes. These are great for converting or scratchbuilding vehicles, or even as rooftop defenses for buildings.

And speaking of buildings...

We have the long-anticipated return of the Desert Dwellings! These have been modified slightly - they still mix well with the older ones (if you're one of the lucky few who managed to get them), but the edges are far less damaging to the molds. Mike also updated them with a tiled floor. It's a nice change - I might have to do the same to my older versions.

Cheers,
Chris

Sale on at The Scene

The Scene's 20% off sale has begun, and is running through midnight, August 10th.

Check out Mike's growing collection of 15mm figures and vehicles including battle robots, drones, zombie hunters/post apoc survivalists, wasteland mutants, river boats, jetbikes, and many more.

He also offers a ton of scenic items, including some very nice hand-made pieces and an assortment of pewter building fittings.  The latter would be extremely useful for finishing electrical box buildings or "futurizing" some historical or modern structures.

New Releases From The Scene

The Scene has decided to deluge use with a bunch of fun stuff this month and there is something for just about anyone.

First off are some new alien offerings, The Karlocks. The Karlocks are a strange race of alien/machine hybrids that bring a rather ghastly new look to your table. Gaunt and predatory, these aliens are geared up for charging and rending, not standing and shooting. As you can see, the Karlocks are nice and big but not so much as to be out of scale. The Karlocks come five (5) to a pack.

Next up are three more Rough Riders to add to their Wasteland Warriors range. Rough Rider 006, 007, 0016, and 0021 all offer an assortment of distopian future bikers that will be right at home in any post-apocalyptic future.

If all of this wasn't cool enough there are also some great new scenic offerings in this batch of releases. Not just one but an entire assortment of garbage skips (dumpsters as I call 'em). They come in a variety of filled and empty models and are available in both 15mm and 20mm scale.

And then there are the body bags. Good for casualty markers or as scenery in your zombie apocalypse games. I figure they would also be great for dressing up scifi games that have that need for an element of macabre horror or eerie mystery.

Finishing off the long list, (I said it was a deluge, didn't I?) of new releases are some oldies but definitely goodies. Back from at long last are these awesome Space Trooper Jet Bikes. Available in a variety of configurations, these jet bikes are great as human or alien troops.

An amazing bunch of offerings from The Scene making February a month of serious goodies.

Take care,

-Eli

The Scene Wasteland Warriors

Here are some nice pictures of latest releases from The Scene which are available now. These post-apocalyptic Wasteland Warriors will be available on foot in packs of 10 (5 different scuplts) for £3.65 and ride some futuristic looking bikes. Wasteland rough riders like the one pictured above will be available for £1.25 each. These are some nice looking additional inhabitants to the 15mm post-apocalyptic landscape!

15mm Body Bags from The Scene

The Scene have just released some 15mm Body Bags. The pack will consist of 3x 15mm body bags, one open and two closed  and will retail at 80p per pack. The pictured body bags are based on UK 1 pence pieces. On their own they seem a little macabre but Mike has said there'll be more in January with zombies busting out of the bags! It sounds like they'll make some great objective markers or spawn points for 15mm zombie games...

UPDATE:

The Scene will be releasing some wasteland warriors before the end of this week, along with some small robots. Mike is also planning on releasing some drones, more building accessories, new special forces and some more wasteland warriors in between Christmas and New Year!

Dr Who: 15mm Scream Alien WIP

.
Did you see Dr Who? Those new aliens are scary! Inspired me to convert some of The Scene's Authorities gunmen in suits into "Scream" aliens. Here's my first take:

Didn't have a photo to work to so this is my interpretation. After a few minutes pushing putty I think 's on the right track.

Gave me an idea, for an Alien Detective Agency or Alien Men in Black agemts. Maybe put a head from a Khurasan Felid and/or better still, Space Demon on The Scene's guys in suits and we have a whole new genre! When find my 15mm.co.uk Greys I'll see how their heads work. I wonder if this would work on Rebel Minis uniformed cops as well? A Khurasan Space Demon (alien) head on the Rebel Minis Mall Cop eating a donut?

I think I need to investigate....

Cheers

Today I am mostly...... Converting Bond in 15mm

.
As I type, a 15mm Quantum of Solace 'Bond' proxie is on the workbench, utilising the figures available fom The Scene's  Authorities range.

I carefully cut round the head of SA001 and popped it onto the body of SA002 to give that gritty Bond 'in the alley' and looking for trouble vibe, replicating the imagery of the movie posters.

His first sidekick is going to be the gun-toting ZH003 pony-tailed beauty who has a Denise Richards' Christmas Jones thing going on (at least in my head).

I'm going to have to throw another order to Matt at The Scene as SA003 and SA005, again with the appropriate headswop, makes a good Bond 'in the Casino'. Looking at SA005, with a trenchcoat, would be a Harry Palmer (or Vic Reeves) stand in or with a headswop and painted with a white dinner jacket - Sean Connery.

The great thing about doing the headswops is that if you are just as careful removing the head on the host body, repositioning it on the donor figure can give the original miniature a whole new aspect.

I really enjoy doing these headswops and that's what it's about. So I'm afraid you'll have to bear with me whilst I run with this fun side project.

FYI, I checked the GZG separate heads against The Authorities range and found that they match perfectly. Making an even greater range of individual agents/contacts and scumbags possible. I'm thinking now that I should order a few more 'suits' from The Scene in order to turn them into Deckard/CyberPunk/Blue Hands guys.

Hopefully some photos tomorrow, IF, I feel that I've mastered painting Brioni charcoal grey suits in 15mm. If not, you can see the WIP shots anyway.

Cheers

Buffy in 15mm

.
Had an idea for a 15mm 'Buffy' figure using The Scene's ZH001 Zombie Hunter/Survivalist.

Option 1: Carve the top of the pistol down and use a piece of curved fuse wire or plasticard to create a crossbow pistol. Benefit of this is the holster detail can stay.

Option 2: Replace the pistol arm from the elbow with the reciprical left arm holding a Zombie/Ghoul's head from miniature ZH002. You can choose whether or not to carve off the pistol holster and you can also choose to give 'Buffy' a knife, stake, cross or similar in her right hand.

Gonna Have Me Some Fun Tonight!

.
It's no secret that Heather and I are big aficianados of the classic 1987 PREDATOR movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jesse Ventura and Sonny Landham.

So, to celebrate the imminent release of a 15mm "slackjawed" Special Forces team (SF01-SF07) from The Scene, Dropship Horizon is proud to sponsor a PREDATOR inspired give away!

To have a chance to win the first set of these new minis from The Scene, all you have to do to demonstrate your Predator Mojo is leave a message below, that:

1) identifies SIX animals mentioned by the characters in the film.
2) correctly identifies the order in which they are mentioned.
You get more brownie points for answering in the true spirit of this competition!

Without doubt, Blain played by Jesse Ventura gets the best lines and in our minds is the most enduring character in the movie. To win the second set of these Special Forces miniatures all you have to do is create:
3) a quote in the style of a typical "Blainism", eg "They're shooting straighter than a Saratoga snake".
The "Blainism" Heather judges the best, wins.

The competition is open until Mike puts the figures up on the webshop. Entries made anonymously without a name included in the entry are disqualified for obvious practical reasons, "I'm Brian, and so's my wife!". We're looking forward to seeing your entries - Have fun & best of luck!

INCOMING......15mm "Goddamn Sexual Tyrannosauruses"

.
As you know we are big fans of the original PREDATOR movie. Here's a Predator inspired game played back in April, earlier this year. And yes, whilst we played , the air was full of our best gutteral Arnie impersonations reliving classic lines from the movie, "Billy!"..."I wouldn't wish that on a Broke-dick dog!"......"Get to da Choppa!".....

So you can imagine my delight, that Mike at The Scene is on the verge of releasing a bunch of 15mm "god damned sexual Tyrannosaurus(es)"......

The Scene UK, 15mm Sci Fi Special Forces
SF01 to SF03

The Scene UK, 15mm Sci Fi Special Forces
SF04 to SF07

And you'll never guess the symmetry, I made an open appeal to 15mm Sci Fi manufacturers for characters like these, suitable as proxies for the movie, back on 14th November last year (link)!

So, to celebrate the release of these minis plus 30,000+ pageviews in the last 30 days, I'm going to give away two complete sets of 15mm Special Forces from The Scene during the course of this week. Stay tuned for more intel on how to win 'Dutch' and the team.

Adriana's Last Stand

.
A quick shot of how my 15mm wasteland terrain is shaping up.

15mm Post Apocalypse Wasteland Outpost
& 'Adriana' (
ZH001 from The Scene)

Being the May Bank Holiday weekend - the emphasis of yesterday, today and tomorrow is definitely family orientated. So work on the wasteland terrain (all gaming) has come to a virtual standstill - but the wasteland terrain bases ground work has been painted and they are ready to throw on the table right now if I wanted- I'll catch up with the final detailing, rusting/weathering as and when during the week.

UPDATE:

If you feel suitably inspired, the van and cars in total came to around 40p, the oil drums are 10 for £1.50, the pipes are simply two straws picked up at Costa Coffee and CD from an old PC magazine. Including Polyfilla (spackle), glue and paint this terrain piece probably comes in around £1. Add liberal GW Washes, call it £1.50 all in.

Post Apocalyptic Outpost - WIP

.
Here is some more post apocalypse scenery I've been working on. This 'outpost' was started a week or so ago and I must give full credit to the Black Primer Paint blog which inspired me to try this in 15mm:

I've been waiting on several packs of 15mm Damaged Oil Drums from Mike at The Scene to add more interest to the base. Now they're here, I'll crack on and hopefully get it finished this week, using the remainder of the barrels to create a couple of bases of scatter terrain.

10 for £1.50 from The Scene

I intend keeping a pack or two of these damaged oil drums available in my bits box for future projects as they are incredibly handy, especially at that price!

I've also made a start on some piles of damaged/scrapped cars - see above - without which no post apocalypse wasteland is complete.

If the post apocalypse genre interests you then I seriously recommend the Post Apocalyptic Wargames Forum. The tone is friendly, helpful and supportive, plus there are some great guys on it.

Will keep you updated as the project progresses.

Cheers
