Quick but effective paint job on Jon's new 15mm Sci Fi Trooper to represent my Zod Commandos.
Step 1. Painted the figure with black ink.
Step 2. Removed ink from all exposed surfaces.
Step 3. Washed with Citadel OOP Waaarg Green.
Step 4. Vallejo 'bright' Gold visor.
Step 5. Rifle painted black - grey highlights and then quick drybrush of Boltgun Metal.
Step 6. Sight recticle painted Scab Red, then White/Scab Red reflection highlight.
I tried to paint very light blue/green 'power' streams in the recesses on the barrel but was defeated by my ageing eyes :-(
I'm tempted to remove the paint from the knee pads, paint them steel or maybe yellow/black 'hazard' stripes (but I have to remember this is 15mm!). He definitely needs badges on his shoulder plates for a bit of colour though. So I've designed this Zod Commando Shield to be suitable for a 15mm figure.
I also intend placing him and his buddies on bases represents ship's/space station decking. Markings on the decking will add additional colour to the piece.
The shield is the unit badge of the Zod Double Epsilon Deep Strike Commando Company. They are chosen for hazardous missions of high strategic importance but with correspondingly lower probabilities of survival. The Company motto is:

.
I intend to use these as non-human troops too.
ReplyDeleteZod? Are we hinting at Zho's here, especially with the design of the commando shield? :)
ReplyDeleteUnless the Ventaurans ever get done by Eureka, these might be the closest we get to certain clam-shell helmet wearing psionic commandos ;)
Zods are just....Zods. Those gilt faceplates hide their provenance.
ReplyDeleteWell Eureka better hurry - the rest of this pack are being sculpted, there will be a second and others will follow depending upon sales. I'd rather invest in 200 'Zods' from Jon knowing that more poses, heavy weapons etc would follow.

Nice! I like the metallic tint in the uniform - makes it look off-world. I particularly like the rifle which gives the figure a very realistic feel.

Thanks Paddy!
ReplyDeleteI wanted a dark green metallic finish to make a bold Sci Fi statement. Worked then!

So, when are they available?
ReplyDeleteJon emailed me this evening to let us know the other three poses of the first pack are being sculpted right now.

Alright, I'll have to say it as nobody else has, "Kneel before the Zods!"
ReplyDeleteNice work Mark. Can see alot more of these guys since you've painted it. I'm keen to paint my NAC, but if these come out before i get the chance i'd love to do these. Cool!
ReplyDelete[kneels before the Zods]
Kneel before the Zods? I'm sorry, we dont have the facilities.
ReplyDeleteBut you knew I was going to say that you mind plundering freak!
Yes, you cannot escape me for I am in your mind!
ReplyDeleteAs a certain creator of a SF RPG once said at a con I was at when I 14 "The last thing you'll remember is having milk and cookies with the thought police."
ReplyDeleteWhich is why you need the Marines to face off the zod psionic space vampires!
ReplyDeleteGood work with the colours Mark!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
ReplyDeleteI bought both GW Dark Angels and Snot Greens to try and replicate this effect with opaque colours.
Cheers
