In The Pipe...... 300 Club 15mm Ventaurans

.
Eureka have contacted me to say that sufficient interest has been received in the 300 Club Ventaurans for them to now judge if it's worth going ahead with the order.

Mike Broadbent will sculpt the helmeted figures shown below:

Over the past twenty plus years up to just three years ago, I would have eaten their hands off. Two years ago, there was still merit.  I put my name down in March 2009. Now, February 2011, yes 2011, why would I want standy abouty figures when there's ranges like GZG's New Israelis and Khurasan's Federal Army available  in a wide range of active combat poses with a full package of command and support weapons?

Whilst I still love the design of the helmets and armour, I'm sorry but I really cannot support what I see as a backwards step and have declined.

Cheers
Mark

  1. I would have to agree and I hope that the final 15mm sculpts take the same styling but update the posing a bit, then they will be a true win.

  2. There's definitely a lot of options out there at the moment in terms of 15mm sci fi infantry but probably only GZG's NAC and New Israelis and Khurasan's Federal Army range have the breadth and variety to field largeish forces of the kind you might see (or at least imagine) on an actual battlefield.

In terms of active combat poses, I think this is perhaps more question of personal taste but the 25mm Ventaurans do look like they're on garrison duty rather than in combat - but maybe that's something some people are looking for. In terms of style I think they're sweet in a pulpy old school sort of way.

  3. Absolutely on the button Matt. Personally, I like the type of realistic human combat zone poses Matt at Elheim has created in his 20mm Modern American and British figures.

  4. I like the helmets, different without being too out in left field, but the poses and variety of weapon options are uninspiring.

  5. Looking critically at the poses, I think the biggest common problem most of them have is that they are all putting their weight on their back foot. I believe this makes them look less aggressive. What Matt rightly calls a garrison look. Hopefully Mr. Broadbent will put a good spin on them.

  6. You're right Mark (Clambo).

The wrong distribution of weight and balance especially when firing a weapon is a common mistake made with miniatures.

Also, Sf13 and SF21 too similar in 15mm. I'd put SF21 in more of a braced semi-crouch and ditch SF11 and SF13. Of course if SF10,11,13 and 21 all go in one pack and the rest go in a "at least these look like they are on the firing range" pack - I'll buy some for nostalgia sake when they eventually appear.
