Apologies to the community here, I thought this post had already been made.

New troops types are being added in the form of special and heavy weapon troopers, communication/ECM specialists, command, ambushing troops and even anti-armor troops. A vehicle is in the works as part of the core as well as gunners to be added to existing models and toy vehicles from gamers' collections helping to simulate technicals, pressed into service by the Ikwen.

The Ion Age now at Alternative Armies

It was a mad busy month of May for me.  Alongside my normal work and all the wargaming fun (The Regimenta Sanna Annie and the Asgard Barbarians were a blast) I had the task of migrating the entire Ion Age website over to its new home at Alternative Armies in four weeks.  I managed it with a few days to spare and also managed to upload all of the free content folders and update the images of the 28mm miniature range too.  In celebration of this we are offering 10% off every miniatures in all scales along with all terrain, posters and books in print and digital download in the WHOLE Ion Age until 9am GMT 10th June 2019.  The discount is on screen and applied to all items including bundles and game packs (on top of the buy three save 10% too) so just add to cart plus now of course if you want something else from the site you can do that too.  Go HERE and look to the top right end of the ranges bar on the home screen or read on.
There are now FIVE collections on Alternative Armies making up The Ion Age.  Here is a run down of each of them plus a link to them.
Ion Age Publications and Posters.  All of the game books and our high quality A3 poster prints too.  Get into Patrol Angis with all the books in print and as digital downloads as well as a game pack plus the titles of MOTH and Firefight 2.0 if you play 28mm scale.
The Ion Age 15mm Range.  A massive choice of miniatures and vehicles in packs with the ability to choose singles from each pack.  The Prydian Army, the Khanate Empire, the Xin Trade Fleet, the Prang as well as Civilians and character miniatures.  Adders, Mullo's, Taranis Tanks as well as Skylark and other vehicles. Have a browse across the pages.
The Ion Age 15mm Terrain Range.  The SEORC company provides Hab Domes and entire Hab Complexes along with Geo Domes and many other pieces of terrain for your battlefield.  Have a look.
The Ion Age 28mm Range.  Where it all began with our space opera setting and now with brand new larger images of all the miniatures.  In packs and singles within the pack more than two hundred poses of Muster, Retained, Nobles, Planetary Militia as well as Legionaries, Nox and Goblinoid Maligs.  Play MOTH or Firefight 2.0 with these miniatures.
Ion Age Free Download.  Over the years we have created and published more than thirty free articles and these are gathered into several zip folders for easy download on this page. Players of Patrol Angis and those keen on knowing more about this space opera setting should get along and have a read.
We will have a new release in the 15mm Ion Age range middle of June 2019 as well as promised.  More on that at the time but I can say that it is a Shia Khan Empire infantry code requested by Ionfans in 2018.

New 15mm Gangers at Alternative Armies

“Like minded individuals often gather together for mutual defence of themselves and their turf. It's a strategy that humanity has employed from the early days of recorded history to the industrial work gangs in the mega cities of earth and Alpha Centuari. However colonial gangs are more often than not the first line of defence in case of siege and invasion as they are farmers and families who have gathered together to protect their holdings and claims from aggression. Once a colony has developed beyond a few small farms and a port is established, the gangs still exist, levying control on areas they claimed at the start of the landing. However other inhabitants may take offense to this and start their own gangs to take back these holdings. At other times they are sprung up from perpetually bored teenagers with little common sense and an eye for violence. On occasion they may even become notorious criminals or just a more militant version of the Planet Defence Forces. Their colours are as numerous as they have numbers, and are often used as a conscript force if things do get dire. Lightly armoured but heavily armed with cheap rec-guns and knowledge, their hold on their turf is absolute and can spring ambushes and raid supply convoys before melting back into spider holes to lick their wounds and strike again later. Their morale is often tied to their leader through a cult of personality, if he dies, they will run. But as most find out, they will be back in greater numbers and with more weapons to settle the score. Colonial life is harsh and brutal enough as it is, but these souls have opted for a more difficult life and will carve out their name and colours... or die trying.”
The brand new release for May 2019 into the HOF 15mm Science Fiction range is a mega pack of 15mm Gangers great for any campaign and setting. Concept by Fred Richards and sculpted by the talented Sean Bullough this pack can be had with all fourteen poses or select poses from it. Above is some setting for these vicious thugs and they are great opponents for your Security Force Alpha patrols or even as Betrayers slaved to the Shia Khan in games of Patrol Angis too. Go HERE for the range or read on for more.

The Ion Age returns to Alternative Armies

Please read this major announcement from The Ion Age.  Thank you.
'This galaxy has decided to gorge upon itself, to consume its vitality once more in pointless slaughter that will see those left afterwards little more than mono-planet atom burners.  Well, its not going to happen, not again.  My father, your king, died for the dream that Prydia held dear and in two decades of civil war we here also have nearly lost that promise of freedom we hold equally dear.  We will all have that freedom again mark me, the Barons will pay and those beings not of mankind that are even now forcing open the doors will be thrown back to the Anwnn where they came from.  Prydia will rise once more and I will, with the aid of the Starvaulters, make it happen.'
Princess Daphe Cyon address to the Council of Aeddans 4330IC
Back in July 2013 I was given the chance to take what existed of the space opera setting of The Ion Age and develop it as a free standing entity apart from Alternative Armies.  In the near five years since then I feel that the little team I assembled has achieved some great things including a 15mm range which went from some thirty poses to many hundreds of poses, new factions, many vehicles and a terrain range.  There was also the three books of the Patrol Angis game system.  We also had four years of monthly free special miniatures.  All great stuff.
The world changes as you all will know and I have reached an agreement with Alternative Armies to hand The Ion Age ranges back to the mother company.  The reasons for this are several.  Firstly the ranges have grown to a point where I no longer feel comfortable handling their expansion on my own.  Secondly Alternative Armies has greater resources which I feel are needed as we continue onto a fourth book and more releases.  Thirdly I realise that we are now in an age of social media (so much different from 2013) and that I am the public face of both Alternative Armies and The Ion Age; this tends to cause some confusion for gamers.  With everything in one place this confusion vanishes and The Ion Age will be able also to take part in the big offers that Alternative Armies makes.  Alternative Armies has increased its staff level and technical resources and is a very active company.  It makes sense to have this return happen.
Do not fret.  There are no staff changes and no miniatures will disappear from production.  Alternative Armies and The Ion Age operate out of the same office.
So what will happen and when?  Do you need to do anything?
In essence I will gradually close down The Ion Age website while transferring the miniatures and books to new pages on Alternative Armies.  Across the next four weeks the 15mm range and the 28mm range as well as Publications and Free Downloads will gain their own pages under a main new heading on the Alternative Armies website.  We will also shut down the ability to purchase from The Ion Age once the codes are moved.  The Ion Age blog will remain in place and will continue to give you the latest news and be a source of content.  Once all of the ranges are transferred The Ion Age website will be mothballed and then shut down in coming months. Our email address info@theionage.com will remain active going forward and do feel free to contact me with any questions.
A large part of the process of handing over will apply to the 'Reward Points' system powered by SLoyalty on The Ion Age.  We have over one thousand customer accounts and several million points accumulated.  It is vitally important to me and it has been agreed with Alternative Armies, that those reward points will be honoured.  Right at the start of the process of range removal from The Ion Age website the Sloyalty programme will be closed down.  When this occurs all customers will be exported and held in a master document with me.  You will still be able to access your account on the site until the site is closed down.  Here is how to claim your accumulated points.
Contact me (Gavin Syme) on sales@alternative-armies.com with your name, address and the email address you used with The Ion Age.  I will confirm this with the master document and then reply to you.  I will tell you the amount of points you have, its value in Sterling (GBP) and how to spend it.  You will get the value of these points on anything on the Alternative Armies site (including Ion Age codes) and it can be used on shipping too.  We ask you use it in one order (for my sanity) and it will be done by email with me directly.  There is no time limit upon this offer so if you are reading this long after May 2019 just contact me.
Aside from this to gain your points you need do nothing more.

Alternative Armies has a lot planned for 2019 and beyond and its agreement with me to take back The Ion Age is only a part of that.  I can tell you that there are more than a dozen new codes in development for the 15mm range as well as the 'Baron' book for Patrol Angis.

Here are links to the new collections for The Ion Age on the Alternative Armies website:
I want to take this moment to thank every one of you for the fun four year ride which we have taken.  Its time to get off.  Before we get back on again!
Thanks for Reading,
GBS
p.s. The images in this announcement are of a customised Magog mecha belonging to Sam Croes, the lead designer at Alternative Armies, painted in the colours of his baronial force 'Castella'.  It is in his personal collection and we hope you like it.  Contact me if you want to know the pieces used to create it and how you might do the same thing.

Skylark Patrol Flyer MkII at The Ion Age

Since before the outbreak of the Prydian Civil War the various marks of the Type 41 Skylark Patrol Flyers have been part of the Muster regiments of the Precinct. Based on a designed from the era of the Ban of Prejudice the Type 41 was put into renewed mass production on seven worlds before the Battle of Fenway Prime. While the Adder Combat Car fulfils the needed role of a multi propulsion ground transport for Muster Platoons there was a need for an armed transport that could move in three dimensions. The Skylark fulfils this role well with the objective of moving troops from a staging area to the combat zone with no intervening stages. Capable of dramatic bursts of speed with its four jet engines the howl of an incoming Skylark is common to the ears of friend and foe alike. The Type 41 was given the name Skylark during its testing on New Glastonbury with a hint of humour. That species of ancient Terran bird was brought to New Glastonbury during its long ago original colonisation and its swooping grace is very much at odds with a vehicle that puts ascetics well behind protecting itself and its occupants.
There are five common marks of the Type 41 which are broadly as follows. The Type 41A Skylark Patroller is the most common of the flyers and is used as an armoured transport capable of carrying two crew and a fire-team of four Muster usually of the Patrol. Its armament is composed of a belly mounted rotary Moth 88 cannon and a top mounted Anda 60mm Missile Pod. Less common but often seen is the Type 41B Skylark Battle Bus which retains the belly mount but has an upper hull modification adding more internal space and an upper exit hatch which means it can carry two fire-teams into the fray at the cost of some protection and fire power. Speed is the aim of the Type 41C called the Skylark Screamer where the upper turret mount and internal space is given over to an additional jet engine mounted on the top of the hull. The Type 41C is used for rapid response and to give ground fire support in open terrain. Rarer is the Type 41D Skylark Big Lift which is unarmed but is fitted with a low slung rig for lifting cargo pods and pallets. But rarest of all is the Type 41E Skylark Eye which is a command and control flyer which features extensive top and belly slung sensor packages; this mark usual belongs to a general or other top ranking officer. All Skylarks have a titanium composite hull and are rated to extreme altitude though without extensive drive modifications it is not capable of reaching low orbit.

IAF029 Skylark Patrol Flyer MkII - Go HERE.
The Skylark is the main air support vehicle of the Muster Patrol and among its variants it typically carries one fire-team plus crew and provides gun runs too upon request. This, the new mark two Skylark Patrol Flyer Mark 41A is a 15mm scale vehicle in the form of a multiple part high grade grey tone resin kit. Composed of seven pieces which require assembly and can be fitted with a flight stand (not supplied). The multiple pieces are gun mounts and engine mounts allowing a good degree of posing for 'in flight' and 'landing'. Assembled the Skylark is 70mm long and 35mm across. You can find rules for its use in our own game system in the Callsign Taranis expansion book. Here is a picture of all the supplied parts of the model kit.
As with all our other codes you may choose from purchasing a single kit or three kits on screen with a 10% saving applied. Supplied unassembled and unpainted without a base (shown on a 40mm round base).

This Skylark is part of a small series of codes all around one theme. The others are IAF033 Crashed Skylark which depicts your flying vehicle on a bad day and IAF034 Skylark Cradle a structure which can hold your landed flyer. Excellent pieces with a wide variety of uses. Here are their details.
IAF033 Crashed Skylark
Fast engines and titanium alloy armour are not always enough to keep you up in the air and clear of danger. This Skylark Patrol Flyer has been shot down after a really rough exchange of fire with the enemy. Crashed into the rocky terrain of a world in the Prydian Precinct it lays with smashed engine housings and a battered hull. Lots of details and an excellent narrative piece for your games or simply as battlefield terrain. The Crashed Skylark Patrol Flyer Mark 41A is a 15mm scale vehicle in one high grade grey tone resin piece with is about 70mm across at its widest point. As with all our releases if you purchase three you can get 10% off the normal price. Go HERE
IAF034 Skylark Cradle
This one piece high grade grey tone resin structure fits right in not only with the IAF029 Skylark its designed to cradle for repair and reloads but also with the rest of the Ion Age 15mm terrain range such as the IAF015 Hab Dome and the IAF024 Fabricator Spire as a building in its own right. The Cradle is an industrial building with a high degree of detail. It is approx 70mm long and 60mm wide. As with all our releases if you purchase three you can get 10% off the normal price. Go HERE
This is our release for April 2019 and we hope you like it. March to War ends at 9am GMT 16th April (shipping returns to normal as does the price of the new Skylark).

“All across the core star systems and on Terra itself there is a need for security after, during and even before the high rollers and expensive kit arrives in the battle zone. Security Force Alpha is just that force filling in as police, paramilitaries, mercenaries and planetary militias too. They are the faceless grunts that do the thankless jobs needed by all those who govern, control or enforce. Use them as you will from the near to the far future!”
Alternative Armies has embarked upon expanding the Security Force Alpha (SFA) array of codes within the HOF 15mm Science Fiction Range in conjunction with prolific wargamer Fred Richards who has a vision of space colony warfare in the near future which we find captivating and wanted to get in on.  From the mind of Mr Richards and the guys at Alternative Armies comes the seventh release in this thread the diaspora of battlesuits as a part of Fred's vision for the future.

Patrol Angis download bundle half price in March 2019 at The Ion Age

Welcome to March!  This month the space opera awesome of The Ion Age is making a great offer to wargamers who fancy checking out our 15mm rule system with fifty percent off the three book bundle for Patrol Angis.  Get all three books as digital downloads in one place and see just how war works in the far future of the Prydian Precinct.  Go HERE to see the bundle.  As well as this we have a new release this month which is replacing its original version; much like the Mullo AFV and Mullo APC this time it is the Skylark Flyer.  We will have more on this during the month but if you have any questions do please contact us on info@theionage.com.
Patrol Angis is a skirmish level of wargame which means it typically has between a dozen and about forty 15mm scale miniatures a side in play during a game. It works well with more but those amounts are ideal. Most games have one Platoon sized force per player and have one or two or maybe even three players. A Platoon or Lance which contains typically twenty two (22) miniatures. In Patrol Angis you play either as the Prydian Army in its quest to reclaim worlds lost to the Marcher Barons during the Civil War or you can play in the employ of Canlaster or Yordist or any of the other dozen smaller array of Marcher Barons. This includes playing as a “Conda”' or paid professional mercenary for any side.
In the bundle you get the core book Patrol Angis which concerns itself with small scale infantry and battlesuit warfare, you get Callsign Taranis which brings in bigger games as well as all kinds of larger vehicles and you get The Khanate Return which is a campaign book giving you army lists and setting for the alien menace facing the Prydian Precinct.  There is a lot more to read and to see (pages from the books) on the website than can be put here so please click through on the links and read more.  Plus Patrol Angis is designed to be played solo as well as with other players.  The bundle HERE is a total of 192 pages of rules, background, setting, force creation and much else besides.  You can use your Reward Points as normal for further discount.
“Since before the outbreak of the Prydian Civil War the various marks of the Type 41 Skylark Patrol Flyers have been part of the Muster regiments of the Precinct. Based on a designed from the era of the Ban of Prejudice the Type 41 was put into renewed mass production on seven worlds before the Battle of Fenway Prime. As mentioned earlier the IAF029 Skylark Patrol Flyer is no more.  The model is withdrawn from sale and is retired.  But do not fret IonFans!  The 'lark will return in a new expanded version of the code this spring with many new options.  It will be still the same code and the same vehicle in the game but with options.  Those who have one or more of the now extinct version one are part of a club now as there shall be no more. See this blog post from March 2014 HERE for more information on the three codes in the Skylark series.  You can find rules for the Skylark in Callsign Taranis.  Watch this space!

Loud Ninja Games Sale Reminder

Hey folks,

With the end of the LNG product promotion coming up at the end of this coming Friday (2/7/19), I wanted to post really quickly and thanks folks for the orders we have received so far as well as, and just as importantly, the feedback and ideas that have been shared.

It is clear that there is a lot of love for our products and I do hope to be able to use these ideas as a map for future products. While not every idea may be used, there are still plenty of good solid suggestions with many being drawn from the rich lore that I like to put behind each of my alien races. Most popular seems to be the Ikwen and I cannot say this surprises me as they have a very evocative and deep background to be explored.

With suggestions for existing ranges still pouring in (keep them coming) i would also like to say that this is also a great time to suggest or request new ranges. There is a lot more that could be done outside or to compliment the existing, Chuhuac, Yan'drassi, Iken, and Wasteland ranges. Do you want new aliens? Are there other settings and genres you would like to see explored? Looking for fantasy? Supers? Let us know. We are always listening. Even after the sale is over, your ideas are always welcome.

You still have today and tomorrow to get your 20% off discount on LNG minis so get them while you can. Whether you are starting a new force or expanding on an old one, it's a great time to grab some LNG goodness. Find the sale - HERE

Take care and good gaming,
