Outcasts: ASBOs in Space

.

Well.....Firefly? No. Bad day at Holby City? Yes. Ray Mears would be more convincing and watchable than Jamie Bamber. I managed 39 minutes before retreating to the kitchen to work on some 20mm Moderns.
Cheers

  1. Well I went the distance but probably wont bother for part 2; presumably they have cloning in this future because Ros from Spooks was in charge of the security team. Presumably the BBC threw a bucket of cash at - in which case why not a) say to Joss Whedon, "how about doing some more Firefly?" or b) telling Paul Darrow to stop chuntering on, take some money and do reboot of Blakes7 with them? OK, not new series but neither was Galactica. Equally, throw the money at "Redemption Falls". As it was, The Observer was right - a drama set in South Africa.

  4. I was watched it to the end, and all I can say is, don't worry about Jamie Bamber making it to episode 2!

Other than that, it was simply another soap opera.

    Very forgetable...

  5. Okay well this has depressed me, I was looking forward to watching this tonight so it may have to be deleted and I’ll un-wrap Zombie Land instead.
I’m sure Joss Whedon wanted to do some more Firefly but it wasn’t him that cancelled, it was Fox!
    Dang Bastiches !
Paul Darrow is waay to old to reprise Avon in Blakes 7 mores the pity but a remake would be great, they’d have to use the same spaceship though, it’s a timeless classic.
Anonymous you’re a heretic, please report front and centre your penal battalion posting shall be issued to you.
Enough ranting, it’s time to think about Jacqueline Pearce as Servalan….ahhhh that’s better !

  6. Survivors is being shown prime time on BBC1 and I guess the BBC feel it has to appeal to a wider audience in order to justify the cost of production.

That may mean that Sci Fi nerds such as ourselves may be left a little disappointed because the show is bound to play down the sci fi elements a little so as not to put off a broader audience.

Survivors is likely to use Sci Fi more as a vehicle for a story involving "emotions, relationships and stuff" which, like it or not, gets folks watching Holby City...

RE Firefly: It is not heresy and I will not recant!

  7. Now "Survivors", the original series - there was good TV.

The best Sci Fi has always been when it is a vehicle for well crafted story telling, compounded by great direction and good character acting.

Not Sci Fi, but I love the movie Crimson Tide - not because it's a Submarine movie but because the drama and tension in the clash of leadership styles between Gene Hackman and Denzil Washington is so damn good.

Rather than being a drama within a Sci Fi environment, OUTCASTS was Sci Fi shoe-horned into a fairly bland drama.

    Cheers

  8. That child repeating things about tigers in the sky was pure bollox. I can't believe they let that kind of shite out on screen. Editing was also very choppy and jumpy probably because the script was a bit lite. A shame they could not have done more with it and episode of DR Who is more fun. I will be watching it again though, I have to give it 2.3 episodes before I drop it. If only to avoid having to watch Holby with my wife!
