GZG - New Site and Christmas Offers!

GZG NEWS - revamped website now live, plus new releases and Christmas Offers!

We've just launched our NEW storefront (Cubecart 4, which drove our old store, is now obsolescent so we've upgraded to Cubecart 5); most things should work pretty much the same as the old store, though we still have to do a few tweaks of various things over the coming days.

All our web addresses (including our main one, www.gzg.com) have now been redirected to the new store, so you might need to change any bookmarks to it that you may have. The direct address for the new store is www.shop.groundzerogames.co.uk.

The most important improvement over the old store is that I will now be able to do much more in the way of updating and adding new items myself, rather than waiting for my web admin to do it, so new products should hit the store even faster now!

Ion Age - October's Free Miniature

After last month's cool kneeling Retained Knight, the folks at Ion Age are releasing another free miniature. This one is particularly nifty for me, because I sculpted the conversion on it. 

Sporting his mighty bionic arm, this Retained Knight character will be included FREE with any order made on the Ion Age until the October 31st 2013. There is a limit of one per order but no limit per customer, so if you place a few orders in the month you can gather up a couple of these gents. After the month of this figure will no longer be available. While it may appear in photos for the line, it will never return to retail.

15mm.Co.Uk releases HOF Fire Team

This one has been a long time coming!

Let's flash back to 2010 for a moment.  Gavin at 15mm.Co.Uk asked Mark to lead the playtesting for their in-development game system.  Mark opened it up to the world, and many of us signed up for the playtest on Yahoo! Groups.  Personally, I had a good time during that playtest... even broke out the boards and notes and played a few games after that period ended. :)

Well, HOF Fire Team is here at last.  Rather than an open-terrain tabletop wargame, HOF-FT is a miniatures-board game hybrid.  The game is played on a collection of specially designed "Battle Boards," which means the game can be enjoyed with very little space.  And each side only has three fire teams - most games can be played with just 24 total figures.

The game retails for £8.00, and each of the three Battle Board tile packs retail for £4.00.

My personal copy hasn't arrived yet, so the full review will have to wait.  But we at least wanted to break the news of its release.  And share this special gift from Gavin and the folks at 15mm.Co.Uk...

"A request for some help in return for

FREE MINIS!

I want to put to you all an idea that came about from a conversation I had this morning with my Web admin chap - we were discussing the fact that while we are now trying to ensure we get photos for the webstore of all the individual new codes we release, we have none showing the special pack deals that we offer.

We'd like to have some good quality pics that really show off the pack deals to best advantage, and there is simply no way I will ever get round to having the time to do this myself - so we're asking if some of you would like to do it.

Most of you are probably familiar with the BATTLEFORCE deals we offer on the 15mm Stargrunt range figures and vehicles - you get a good core force to start your army; the exact composition depends on the pack you choose, but in general you get a combined arms group consisting of a section or platoon of armour, a platoon of mechanised infantry plus (where applicable) a mix of support, recon, command elements etc., with various accessories and extras thrown in as well - over £75.00 worth of minis for a deal price of £60.00.

Now, we want to give some of these BF deal packs away FREE (we'll even send it to you post free)!

The catch is, in return for one of these FREE packs we want you to commit to ASSEMBLING AND PAINTING the minis in a reasonably short timeframe, and sending us some decent photos of them which we can use to illustrate the pack contents on our webstore, in adverts and so on.

Obviously, you get to keep all the minis - all we want are the pictures. You'll be putting in a good few hours of your hobby time, but in return you'll have a finished army that you can use at no financial outlay - so everybody wins! ;-)

We WOULD ask to see a pic or two of previous stuff that you've painted (it doesn't have to be anything of ours, just something to show your style) when you apply, but please don't be put off if you don't think your work is of the highest standard. We are not asking for prizewinning painting levels, though obviously we do want the results to look competent and attractive. Even simple paint jobs (sprayed basecoat and some washing/drybrushing) can look fine, and in many ways these actually show the lines of the minis better than things like complex camo patterns. What we need is a few of you who are prepared to commit the time and effort to actually getting the job done, so please don't respond if you don't have both the enthusiasm and the free time available in the near future.

Just as a final incentive, while I've said that we don't need an incredibly high standard, we WILL give something extra as a PRIZE for the most attractive finished force after we get them all in!

Quantity-wise, we're talking about in the region of ten to a dozen vehicles and forty to fifty infantry figures (which may be single or fireteam-based to your choice) in each BF deal, exact numbers depending on which pack it is.

So, IF you can fulfill all of the following.......

1) you can commit to building, painting and photographing a force of that size in a reasonably fast timeframe (we're looking at ideally around 4 to 6 weeks from you receiving the parcel from us).

2) you have a reasonable standard of painting and modelling skill - sufficient to make the minis look attractive at tabletop viewing distance, we don't need exhibition standard but we don't want splodgy messes either!

3) you have (or have access to) the facilities and equipment to take a number of qood quality, well lit, in-focus shots of the finished minis, in groups and singly, and send the results to us by email.

4) you'd like about £75 worth of completely FREE minis in return for some time and effort....

Yes, it's that time of year again! I know that a number of you have been waiting for us to announce the Xmas Specials before you put your orders in, so here we go.... basically it's the same offer that we've done for several years now - it's always popular, and if it's not broke, then why fix it...?

Our 2009 Xmas Specials officially start from THURSDAY 12th November (that's tomorrow, if you're reading this the day I post it!) and run through until CHRISTMAS DAY. All qualifying orders (which is all those for over £30 of stuff) will get TWO specials included:

1) All orders for £30 or more at list prices get a FREE GOODIE BAG of extra minis and stuff - how much you get depends on the size of your order, and we'll tailor most of the contents to fit the kind of stuff you are ordering (plus the occasional odd item that might tempt you into other ranges and scales...). What goes in the bag is OUR choice, so no cheekily asking for particular things please, but those of you who have had our previous Xmas deals will know that we give you a generous selection of stuff that you can actually use for your armies/fleets!

Sometimes we put in the odd special or unreleased item too, so you never know what you might get!

Oh, just one more thing - sometimes we put the occasional novelty figure from one of our more "adult" ranges in some goodie bags, so if you are under 18 (or ordering for someone who is) then please tell us and we'll make sure not to do this! Of course if you're over 18 but just don't like that sort of thing, then let us know that too.

2) In addition to the Free Stuff, qualifying orders will also get a VOUCHER that you can use to get a generous DISCOUNT off a further order placed in JANUARY 2010 - so you can get your pre-Xmas stuff now, and then use the voucher up when you have some gift money from all those relatives who have absolutely NO idea what to buy you for Christmas!

The value of the voucher varies according to the size of your pre-Xmas order - if you are buying from £30 to £60 worth of goods, then you'll get a New Year voucher for 10% discount; if you spend over £60 and up to £120, it's a 15% voucher, and if you buy over £120 worth then you get a huge 20% discount voucher!

Each voucher carries a unique code number that allows you to use it for online orders (or by phone).

CHRISTMAS POST AND ORDERING:
We all know what the post gets like as Christmas approaches, so don't wait - get your orders in as soon as possible, and we'll do our best to get them out to you fast. The should be NO more problems with mail strikes in the UK between now and Christmas, but even so it is best to order early to guarantee safe delivery. Orders for the US and Canada should ideally be with us by the first week in December if possible, and anywhere further afield by the end of November; European orders should still be OK till around the second week of December, and of course we'll be dispatching UK ones right down to the wire....
