It's all about visors...

.
The difference a visor makes...

Still have to highlight the visors, but if I wanted to throw these on the tabletop in a hurry, a dab of GW Gryphone Sepia to cover the white patches on the base, quick drybrush of some sandy shade and they'll hold their own against any other painted miniatures.

BTW, those are some of the new unreleased GZG L-UNSC figures lurking in the background. More about those later.

Cheers

  2. The visors really do set them apart! I'd also suggest making the weapons stand out just a bit - either a quick hit with a metal color or even the same way you did the visors. A mini never looks finished to me without a distinct weapon (odd, considering I carried a subdued black rifle for 6 years...)

  3. Well you see, that's the rub isn't it. Modern troops tend to have shoulder arms that are camo'd to match their cammies/surroundings - making them stand out is a bit of an oxymoron, but artistically does look a lot better.

I recently painted an entire platoon with 'sand' weapons and it looked shite! So I left the snipers and painted the rest black/Boltgun metal and it worked.

I am trying Devlan Mud to darken the weapons and bring out the smaller details and if this doesn't work a light wash with Vallejo Germn Camouflage Green.

I'm ok about having lighter weapons on these minis. Having played a lot of GRAW on the XBOX, the overall tone of the miniatures looks right to me and that's what counts.

There will be more painted stuff Rob. DH is changing and I think it's time to concentrate on the minis I like and the games I enjoy.

  4. Totally agree with you Mark. That's great news too.
I'm going to try HOF:FT at Salute and I truly can't wait.
I also can';t wait for my first 15mm sculpts to come out from AA, not sure when they'll pop up, but I'll be happy to see them!
